Whats Up With Selling Fully Grown Yorkies! - YorkieTalk.com Forums

On my free time I like to visit puppycity, puppyfind, hoobly, and many more sites were pets are sold. Well lately I see almost fully grown yorkies for sale and this makes very mad because I am under the impression that they are peoples personal pets but because of the high demand and the $$$$$$$ involved they just decide to cash-in and give up their pets. i srue hope this isn't the case because that would be disgusting and make me sick to my stomach. I think these sites should't allow pets over 6 months to be posted for sale.

If that is the case it is a shame that people would be more interested in money than the pet. However, I would rather see a full grown york sold to a possible good pet home instead of being dropped off at a shelter if it's owners can no longer keep it. There are circumstances where a dog has outlived the owner or a breeder is retiring a dog, so I wouldn't be too quick to judge harshly.

If this is really the case I would rather have people who will love and care for the babies buy them than have people that are not emotionally bonded to them and do not think of them as part of the family keeping them! I cannot imagine a person who would just sell their pet on a wimb caring for it all that well!

It may be that the people have waited to see if it was show quality and found that it is pet quality. They have to keep them longer to find out.

Some people (aka puppy mills or "dog hoarders") breed the females like crazy for the 1st 4-5 years and then sell them as pets for a small price like on puppyfind, etc. It's really sad but true, I just met a lady this week who does this.

I have 3 full grown Yorkies with different stories , they are 1 year , 1 year 1/2 and 2 years old . I really prefer to have them with me because they will have a very good life .

More of those poor mill babies get bred one more time and get taken to the auctions in Wheaton, MO and sold to other millers when they are fully pregnant. After that litter they are disposed of but rarely does that mean they advertise them and sell them. Sometimes they are sold at flea markets or by signs along the road and even those are rare..Sorry, I did not mean for this to become another discussion about those persons. I am just giving my opinion about who might or might not be advertising adults for sale..
I retire my females, spay them, do dentals, and place them in pet homes where they live a wonderful life as an only child.
I have helped find homes for adults whose owners could no longer keep them That is always sad and glad at the same time.

There are also breeders who keep tinies (under 5 lbs as an adult) to get them to their adult size and past the "fragile" puppy stage because there is a high demand for the smaller yorkies and the only way to guarantee size is to buy the dog as an adult.

Sometimes the dog is just not a good match for the owners. Like us with Natasha. She was a beautiful Pom that was just plain evil! She was so not the dog for us. We tried and gave her many chances but after attacking my youngest daughter, my son and me it was time to throw in the towel. I made sure she went to a very good home. An elderly lady took her and it couldn't have been a better match! Natasha is a totally different doggy. She loves her new mommy and is spoiled rotten!!! She does tricks, she even lets her new mommy pet her while she's eatting. I can not believe it the same dog. I can't be more happier that we were able to find her such a good home!

I just emailed a lady who is selling a BEAUTIFUL 9 month old in my area. She said that she bought the dog for breeding purposes, but she has only grown to be 3lbs so she is too small and is selling her. I would LOOOVE to have her, but her price is $2600. I definetly can't afford that and it makes me wonder if any one will buy this pup...

Or you can be like me and love puppy ages and stages..I am not in much of a rush to let them go sometimes and a few tend to get to a year or so without me noticing! LOL

Is it harder to let them go when you have become so attached to them?

I got my girl from a breeder at 1 1/2 years old. She had decided that she would not get big enought to show so she sold her. She is soooo sweet and I love her to death...it was a big adjustment to get an older dog as a pet. But she has finally started to adjust and get the whole potty thing down.
