| 7 week old puppy.... You guys may have read my previous post, and know that Captain Jack was given to my by one of my grooming customers. The person that gave him to me owns his father, not his mother. I got him yesterday, he is only 7 weeks old. The girl that owns his mother doesn't know anything about puppies! (it was kind of an accidental breeding) First he is only 7 weeks old and already with me...that says something by itself. But when I got him he was covered in fleas and very wormy. His little gums were almost completely white! I gave him 1/4 of a capstar, and wormed him. He is getting his shots in the morning. I am not complaining, I am very gratefull to have him. I just want to know if you all have any tips or suggestions that may help us! Thank You!

| Awww. the poor little sweetie. He is lucky to have you as a mom. Make sure he is on a good quality puppy kibble (I use Royal Canin, but there are others). Put the kibble in the blender and make it part chunk and part powder. It is easier to eat when they are so small. I'd also offer a little boiled or grilled chicken breast without skin or bones. Just to make sure he is getting something he will like and that is good for him and easy to digest. Then just love him up and he should do okay. You know we used to always give our puppies at 6 weeks. So they can do well, but better if you keep him going on a well balance diet. Good luck!

| I have never dealt with such a young puppy but I have read over and over that a person should have nutra cal on hand. You probably already know that. Here is a quote from a sticky here on YT: 2. Tube of Nutra Cal for Puppies (pet’s mart) administered in doses of 2cc each day after breakfast for at least 3 months. This is a high calorie supplement to head off hypoglycemia and give your puppy lots of energy as it grows. I've also read that you have to work hard on the socialization area when they come to you so young. Hopefully there will be some more experienced member that will post and help you. This is more like a "bump" than anything.

| I did an "advanced" word search and there is a lot on YT about 7 wk. old puppies. I think you could probaby find a lot of advice. Here's just a little that I found. Probably everything you already know. It also sounds like lots of members have have good luck raising a tiny 7 wk. Yorkie. Go best of luck as you venture into this unknown territory. Joanne http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...too-young.html : The period from 3-12 weeks is a critical imprinting and socialization period for the puppy. During this time, it learns to basically be a dog from its mother and littermates. It learns bite inhibition from 8-12 weeks as well. The breeder should be working to socialize the puppy as well during this time and potty training should be started. At about 8 weeks is a critical time for the puppy..if they are exposed to a negative experience they may be afraid of that experience for life....but to the degree depends on the individual puppy. The dog was actually studied thorougly during this imprinting/socialization period so a lot is known about critical time periods. Also, before 12 weeks, the puppy has a much higher risk for hypoglycemia. The puppy might be eating fine at the breeders but the stress of changing environments often causes puppies not to eat at first. Hypoglycemia can be very serious and even fatal if signs aren't recognized and blood sugar raised soon enough. It's really hard to know what you are getting in an 8 week old puppy too...it's hard to estimate looks, size, petsonality, etc with a pup that young. It's really too early to do a Bile Acid Test at that age too...12 weeks would be better, and that's a test you definitely don't want to skip, especially with a breeder already breaking an ethical rule (they may not be health screening their dogs). Yorkies are 36 times more likely to have a liver shunt than all other breeds combined so all yorkie puppies should be BAT to make sure they don't have a shunt. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...get-puppy.html the breeder/pet store owner told me my puppy was 7 weeks but actually was a few days short of 7 weeks! I knew if I didn't take him someone else would! and where I live yorkies are rare. My Tanner is now 12 weeks and I won't lie it was hard. He would shake easy so keep him warm and lots of naps, second getting him to eat. I now cut up really small bits of chedder cheese you can barely see it to encourage him to eat his puppy food,(combination of puppy nutrience and royal canine baby dog for puppies up to 8 weeks).Good luck to you. Tanner is our family pride and joy beside always wanting to chew on my fingers he is the most perfect puppy anyone could ask for.

| I have been feeding him artemis small breed dry puppy food mixed with nutro canned puppy food. I have a tube of nutrical on hand. He is not a teeny tiny thing...he weighs 2lbs already! My husband is off work this week and after that he will go to work with me.( I own my business) He sleeps alot, but when he finally does wake up he is very playful! He is doing really well with going to the puppy pad already. I think he is going to be fine, but it is nice to know I have a place to turn to for advice!

| I would suggest, just make sure he's well socialised with other dogs of all sizes when he's has his injections. So he won't have missed out on the initial family socialisation. Hugs Shirl x x |
