| have you heard of this food...... i went to petsmart today to get coco dog food and i have been giving him biljac but i wanted something more natural. so i found one! it is called "authority" harvest baked. it says it has "no" white rice or corn,no by products,no artificial flavors or colors no rendered fat,and no artificial preservatives! me and the manager there(he really knew his stuff and was so nice and patient) spent about 1 hour comparing foods, nutro, biljac, royal canine, etc...and found that this one had the best ingredients.the first ingredient is chicken, then whole ground wheat, chicken meal, whole ground barley, canola oil (source of vitamin e for coat and skin),carrots, salmon, dried egg product, spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, cranberries, natu ral flavor, chicory root extract, flaxseed, minerals, vitamins, choline chloride, glucosamine hydrocholide, chondroitin sulfate, and carntine. have any of you tried this? i'm so excited that i finally found something with the ingredients i want. and without all the junk! it is kinda pricey but i think it's worth it for my coco!

| I haven't heard of that food, but I found a natural food thats called "SPOTS STEW". its got lots of good natural foods in it that a person could eat also, like Chicken, carrots, celery, yellow squash, zucchini, chicken liver, green beans, peas, pasta, turkey, rolled oats, barley, soy sauce, dried Kelp, garlic powder, calcium lactate, ascorbic acid, zinc gluconate, and di-calcium phosphate with some water making a GREAT STEW. My picky eaters just WHOOFED IT DOWN... Has anyone heard of this or tried it ? We've been having a problem lately with a dry coat, shedding and runny eyes. Looking at the testimonials of this product, it seems to help these situations. I thought I'd put it to the test seeing all the products used can be consumed by a human. No fillers, additives or preservatives, all natural here at Halopets.com. |

| Yes, I have heard of "authority" - it is a petsmart brand. I used to do some sales for a dog food company ( great people) but I don't feed their product anymore so I won't mention the co. name. From that time with them I learned alittle about whats good and whats not but it is very confusing. What's good for one may not be good for another. Some need the lamb and some have allergic reactions to wheat, corn etc. I go about it the way you do and pick a food where the first ingredient is chicken, you'd be surprised what some food has as there first ingedient. That 1st ing. makes up the biggest part of the recipe so it is important. There are always new products and they all offer the world. If it says no "by products" I am always happy. I've debated about Royal Canin but I've heard it puts on weight so I can't go that way. Senior dogs have their own set of eating problems. I think "authority" sounds like a good choice for you

Even the meat roll, weird. Im taking her to the vet next week to make sure she is oka dn get her shots. |

| Mine are so picky too. They will eat new food for a day or two, then start refusing again.....eeeek! Let us know if Coco will eat it long term. I've spent so much money on expensive brands only to have a whole bag left. Bil-Jac lasted the longest at about a week, and they will still "snack" on it. I wish they would make tiny "sample size" bags of all dog food! Anybody need Eukanuba, pedigree small breed, science diet puppy?.....:-)

| Now remember I'm not saying it is the best food out there but they have improved it so much that I think it will be good for you.

| I subscribed for a while to a periodical that had a lot of holistic info in it. One issue covered the way to select a dry food for your dgo. It made sense to me and I still use the info. The first 5 ingredients are usually the ones to judge. Yes, meat such as lamb and chicken are good and should be first but there should be one more protein source in the first five ingredients. Chicken meal, for instance, is chicken with the moisture removed and ounce for ounce, could have more protein that plain chicken because of the concentration of the chicken muscle..So, I look for a food that has 2 protein sources and as much whole grains as possible in the 5 ingredients. That way, I don't have to spend time comparing. I automatically rule out foods based on the first 5 ingredients.. I tried Flint River and mine turned their snobby noses right up at it. My sons English Spaniel has eaten some really expensive foods based on my research and my brats' tastes.. |
