Donating YT 7000 Club Member | Why Is It???? I was on petfinder.com looking at some yorkies. Almost all of them had no kids next to them. I really don't get that. Yorkies seem to love everyone, including kids. I mean I could understand how they would be worried that the kids don't know how to act around them, but not all children are like that. Has anyone else noticed that? Here's what i was looking at. http://www.petfinder.com/pet.cgi?act...=Dog&preview=1

| I just read that ad and it states that the dog needs an "ALPHA owner". That is definitely not a child-friendly dog. As a matter of fact, dogs are given up all the time because they do not do well with kids. Better safe than sorry.. |

| I've noticed that, too. I think most of them mean small children. I can understand a lot of the shelters feeling this way. Many small children cannot be trusted around Stewie. They scream and yell and chase him and he gets frightened. Think about it -- if someone brings home a Yorkie from a shelters and then it bites their small kid because it got frightened, the Yorkie is going right back to the shelter.

| There are some children who shouldn't be around any animals. I have a couple boys in my neighborhood that are that way. The one boy I had to get after because he kicked Chachi because Chachi barked at him. Hes no longer alowed at my house because he is such a complete brat. I don't want my daughter around a child like that.

| Ok....most bratty kids don't come with signs on them that says "will torture cute little animals" - so therefore, the dogs must be labled "not good with kids" HAHA. When I say bratty kids, I'm referring to my cousins. One 5 year old girl and twin two year old boy/girl twins. Cute as they can be. HOWEVER they have NOT been taught the word "no". They pull cats tails and throw toys at the dogs.....the animals are terrified of them, frankly. I actually do attribute part of Sully's really successful socialization to making him play with these crazy kids when he was a puppy. But never for very long and I always strictly supervised them. Those kids hear "no" from me more often than they do from their mom in a week, I swear. I love my cousins dearly but holy cow they're a handful! But Sully doesn't like playing with them much, either. He likes it when they chase him....ONLY becasue he's way too fast for them to actually catch him. LOL. BUT I'm talking about Sully, who was socialized as a puppy around small children! Most of these yorkies on that list were NOT socialized with kids. They're not at all used to their tails being pulled and being petted on the head by the hand of an awkward 2-year old.

| Yeah, charlie with me when i work in the store most days and when little children try to pick him up by the head he bites at them because it hurts! And the kids are all dumbfounded why he bit them and i explictly tell them just PET him and don't try to pick him up. Then they go scream in that high pitched voice and it startles him so he gets even more on edge.

Donating YT 7000 Club Member | lol. omg someone kicked chachi!?!?!? i'm supprised you're not in jail now lol. i guess it does make since that they shouldn't be placed with little kids. but i also think they should be able to meet the dog first to see if the kids will behave. then if not say no. but i was under the impression of like no kids at all.

| Yorkie rescue won't let you adopt either if you have kids under 10. I was under the impression because of that many breeders didn't let peoole with children adopt and was grateful for my breeder who let me when I have a 5 year old.

| Very small children under , lets say 3 are probably not going to be good with a very small dog.. And older child who are not good with them, Well, its their parents fault for not teaching them.. My children have had dogs in their life since they were two. They have always respected our animals. Now as for some of my nieces and nephews. Well thats another story!! My poor westie was the best behaved dog I have ever owned, He went through the gamit when it came to children, and not once did he ever attempt to bite a child. Occasionally, He would Pee on them, but never bite..

| That's a question I got from the breeder before I bought both my dogs. I only have grown children but my grandchidlren who are wonderful, of course, have to be watched because they just love Lacey, want to hold her and make her stay with them. Naturally Lacey would rather have a stick up her nose than to have to stay anywhere she doesn't want to and the grandkids can hold too tight trying to be friends with her. So, yorkies are pretty small, even good children who are say, 4 and under, really don't understand how to handle them. |
