| PLease help! Dogs got into trash & ate chicken bones! I always leave my dogs out (even the little one) when I go somewhere for a few hours. I DO NOT ever leave trash out. BUt apparently today I forgot to put the trashcan back inthe pantry and I left for 2 hours and came home to find the contents of the trash can spread out or completely missing. I am worried becasue I threw out an almost completely whole rotissere chicken(bones and all ) and it is completely gone. No trace. I know my boxer is the main culprit but chloe's face is all greasy so I know she had some chicken too. I am really worried as to who had the bones, if everyone did. What should I do? I know little chicken bones are bad. How do I know if she ate the bones and if she wont be able to pass them?

| I am not too concerned yet because she is acting just fine. Actually they are all extremely hyper which makes me wonder if there was something with sugar in the trash . I am pretty sure my boxer ate all the bones b/c she likes to dominate the food and not share. CHloe was proboly only allowed to lick the container it came in which could explain her greasy face. I should take a pic!

| Keep a close eye on them. Try just giving bread or rice or similar so that you can check EVERY poop and make sure there is no blood..if so, off to the vet. I bone could be caught and can cause a serious bowel puncture. The hyperactivity could be the seasonings on the skin and fat on the chicken. They will bounce til they run out of gas. BUT, please keep an eye on (well, not really "ON" but close) their poop...I would for sure to call the vet tomorrow for advice..Probably nothing wrong except they specifically asked for WHITE wine since they were having white meat.. |

| I know I shouldn't but I do give the bigger bones sometimes. I just watch them closely. The worst thing that has happened is that a sliver of bone gets caught crossways in the roof of their mouth stuck between their teeth and I have to tackle the silly dog because he/she is running from me. I thot I better clarify that, I don't litterally (sp) tackle them. LOL Last edited by Lady of Yorkies; 07-29-2005 at 09:22 PM. |

| I have heard many stories about chicken bones! but your little one probably just licked it I really find it hard to belive that chloe can wipe out a chicken carcass lol as far as the bone being digested it will be, but the concern is that they splinter, but I really have never heard of any dog being injured from them but you just never can tell and I remember my Irish setter had got a hold of a chicken leg but everything turned out ok. I would just watch them but go with your instincts if you are not sure check with an emergency vet by phone and ask! this is kinda funny not to be rude but you got to admit the evidence of that little greasy face brings a smile to your face |

| 24 hours later....... So far there has been no eveidence with either of my small dogs having eaten any of the bones. I am actually surpised they havent had runny poop with all that nasty trash eating. But the past 24 hours its been normal poop . However, my boxer did throw up slivers of chicken bones! So I am pretty sure she was the one to eat all of it. she doesnt share food anyways. ANd in this case, I am actually very thankful she is a selfish food hog.
