| How Do I Introduce Yorkie To Spoiled Cats? HELP! I'm bring home a Yorkie Baby... How do I make my cats like her? I have 2 indoor cats (Jasper & Sophia Marie) that have been "My Life" for the past five years. I bottle feed them both, so they think they own me! I'm home 24-7 and they are very... very... attached to me. They follow me everywhere I go. They come to check on me several times a day. Jasper tries to sit on my chest while I'm on the computer... It's Very Annoying! He has been up her "twice" just since I've typed out this Thread! OMG! Go lay down Jazzy! and Get Your Butt Out Of My Face!!! funny... he really does this! Yuk! I'm bring LeiLani home around June 25th (she'll be 12 weeks old) and my cats have only seen a dog twice. I'm very scared that they will not get along. I've been trying to make as many change to the house before she comes home. What do I do? How do I make them like her? Has anyone else gone through this with their first Yorkie?

| My cats do not like it when any new animal comes in my house. They eventually get used to them but usually it takes time. A few of my cats don't like any of my dogs or other cats. They just learn to coexist. Hopefully yours will all get along. The cats will probably not be very happy at first. They might urinate in places they shouldn't. It just depends on the cat. One of my cats loves dogs and gets along great with them. Good luck!

| I have an indoor Hymie cat. When I brought home my yorkie over a month ago....she hid. She comes around now and lets the pup get close but then runs away. It is really sad cause I miss my cat hanging around me all day too. I am hoping that when the pup settles down then they may get close....but I don't see that happening as it sits at the moment. I hope it is different for you cause I have cried already cause I miss my Flicka (cat) roaming the house like she should. |

I will definitely be crying!!!! I can't even go to sleep with out my kids. My female, Sophia Marie has "Suckie" with me ever night. She has her baby blanket that she has to have on my chest while she "Makes Bread" and sucks on it... until she falls asleep. My boy Kitty, Jasper sleeps with his face on top of my forehead until he falls asleep. We all snuggle... and my husband hates it. He gets yelled at by Sophia Marie (the cat) every time he get in her way. They fight over me.

| Maybe if you don't let LeiLani sleep in the bed. Just let the cats sleep in the bed with you they won't get as jealous.

| Sorry my Reply took so long!!! This is the 4th time I've type this same message... Every time I send this message it kicks me out and I have to sign in again. Anyway, I thought about crating her at bedtime. So I purchased a Vari Kennel the one w/double door. There’s one door on top and one in front. It’s a nice peek-a-boo window. I set it up last week next to my bed so that my kids could familiar with it. I'm just worried that if she cries I will talk her out. Will she cry a lot when she first comes home from her Surrogate Mommy? What should I be expecting? It's been about 12 year since my last dogs and it's funny how you forget everything.

| Well when we brought Grayson home we left him in his crate so they could come up to the crate and check him out. Needless to say Dusty wasn't happy and went into hiding for 2 days but she got over it, Pepper and Grayson became fast friends. Good luck

| This wont traumatize the puppy? How long should I leave her in the cage before letting her out into the house? I'm in a Condo to I don't have to many rooms to separate everyone.

| It's been a little over a year since I introduced Diggs (yorkie) to Potter and Lucy (cats). It was definitely traumatic for them! They used to be the king/queen of the house but now there is a little man constantly around. I ended up getting a baby gate to keep Diggs out of one room in the house and they make that "their" room. At night he sleeps in my room so they get full run of the house. Also, whenever I take him anywhere they emerge almost immediately and I think they really look forward to when I take him out on walks! While it isn't perfect it has definitely gotten better since the beginning. I think the cats have adjusted to him- they may not be happy but at least they understand he is around (and when he is not). He just wants to play with them and they are NOT interested. The good news is that they are still happy and very loving cats. Since it has gotten better I am content with that for the time being. I agree with cataholic who said it depends on the cat- my girl cat Lucy is doing a much better job with Diggs. I wish you the best of luck socializing them!! |
