| Help! Is this Tick bite infected?!?!?!?! Cookie got bitten by a tick on Saturday night, we took the tick off but now the bite is getting swollen and a lot bigger, it is also getting really red. What does this mean? Should I take her to the vet? |

| Maybe you didn't get it all out. It sounds like it may be infected. Better have the vet check it out. Better safe than sorry. |

| I would put some peroxide on it....that should help. when one of my yorkies got a tick last year we couldn't get it all out and the vet said to put some peroxide on it and if it was better in a couple of days to get it checked out. |

| It is possible that the head remains. However, it could also be an allergic reaction. I would, at the very least, call the vet. But truly, if it were my Sassy, we would be at the vet's! I guess I just feel like the sooner you get a handle on it, the better. |

| Mojo had a big tick on his leg in the Fall.....It was weird...a big circle that was swollen around the edges, but indented in the center. I put peroixe and neosporin on it and took him to the vet to have it checked. She said the neosporin wouldn't do any good because if there was a problem, it would be under his skin.....she said it looked okay, like the head was out....and I was pretty sure I had gotten the head out.....and thankfully, we didn't have to go back. It started to go down and he never acted sick or anything! WHEW! But, I never hurts to have it checked....I always feel better...even though a lot of times, I pay for just that calming of my own nerves...not a medical problem! HA! I was also told at one time...that a lot of times it is the bacteria that gets squeezed back into the body (of the animal/person) from the tick when you pull it off that can cause the sore, sickness, etc.

| yeah, i read something similar online. I read that if u don't get the head out the body forms an abscess to try to get the head to release. So i think it may be a normal reaction to the tick. They are such nasty little things.

Senior Yorkie Talker | I found a tick on my puppy today and called the vet and they told me if I didnt get the head out then the area will get red and swollen and if that happens bring him to the vet asap so they can start him on antibiotics.

I hate ticks!!! One thing the vet told us was from now on, make sure you save the tick in alchohol so they can see it if they need to later on.

| we used to camp a lot, and i had gotten a tick -- of course, mine was in my very long, thick hair and my mom had to get it out for me (what a painful and long process that is!) so as far as how it looked after, it was a little red, but i don't think it was swollen? so i think the safest bet is a trip to the vet (aww, i made a cute new phrase!)
