| Hi all, I am about to be a yorkie mom! I was advised to join this site. I have two Bichon Frises sisters, 8 yrs old and just ordered a teacup female yorkie from the breeder I got my bichons from eight years ago. He is a wonderful breeder in NC of small breeds. I will go there in June to get her. I am so excited and was advised to join this group and am hopeing that any of you with teacup yorkies can shed any light upon this wonderful little dog. I have been researching this breed for a very long time. I love looking at the pictures and reading information. I am from the northern virginia area. Anyone near me who has teacup yorkies? The breeder says at full growth this yorkie should be about five pounds. Thanks for reading my posting! Ebonysmom |

YT Addict | There is no such thing a a teacup yorkie. And 5lbs is not even close to being a tiny! 5-7 lbs is the standard! I hope you didn't pay "extra" because she said she'd be small! A tiny is 3 lbs or less! Last edited by sheilajom; 05-04-2008 at 06:11 PM. |

I think it is great your getting your first one.. but if the breeder says the yorkie will be 5 pounds fully grown the breeder should not tell you this dog is a teacup.. There is no such a word as teacup yorkie.. there can be a runt in a litter that ends to be smaller.. the standard size in a yorkie is actually 4-7 pounds.. There are many people who breed small yorkies in the hopes of producing tiny ones.. then they sell them as teacups which there is no such name.. but the say teacups in order to make more money.. I hope you get positive posts.. some people take the word as teacup not very well... good luck with your baby.. I am sure you will learn lots about yorkies on this forum.... anne | |

| let me just say that even if you get negative feedback; they mean well. everything you need to know about your "teacup" has been stated, but 5 pounds is a tad bit on the larger side for a so called teacup. My sophie is 5 pounds (granted she is still growing). But even if you are disappointed that your baby isn't going to be small -- don't be. you'll fall in love nonetheless, and won't have the worry of your darling hurting herself, or your other dogs hurting her. welcome to YT, you'll be addicted before long!

| You were right! Thanks for the info! I posted here that I was about to be the new mom of a yorkie. I had thought this was a teacup yorkie but today I talked with the breeder I am getting her from and he said she would be about five pds at full growth and that is not a teacup and after looking at the AKC standards I see the difference. So thanks for straightening me out. I think five pds is certainly small enough for me. I am haveing such a good time today thinking up cute girlie names for this baby and looking at a couple of pet sites for cute little accessories. I alway sewed dresses and frilly little things for my twin girls when they were young, now they are 19, working full time and going to nursing school. They still live at home but with thier full schedules I hardly see them. My son is 17 and I guess I am feeling the empty nest thing already so a new baby will certainly fill up more of my day. But back to sewing, I am going to see what cute little things I can sew up for the baby when she is a little bigger. I cannot wait til June 20th when I go to NC to get her. I am also going to babysit for a friend this summer, she is going on vacation and she has a very old maltese who has no teeth and a five yr. old yorkie. Both dogs are rescue dogs and so sweet and they have been thru so much in thier lives. I am going to babysit for a week. So with my two little bichons, my friends dogs and a new baby I will be in for a very, very busy week. I will problely need a vacation myself when this is over!! Nice to see so many helpful and kind people here! Again thank-you! |
