| How do you know if getting another puppy is good for your current dog? Diddy is one year old and I have been wanting to get him a sister. I have the opportunity to get a Maltese puppy so we had her meet Diddy today. He was a little scared of her. She just wanted to play and he just kept sniffing at her cautiously and backed away. He was also drooling like crazy. Was this because he was scared? I don't want to bring another dog into our household if it isn't best for Diddy. He didn't bark or growl at her. He seemed really curious about her, just unsure. How do I know what's best for Diddy? How could I get him to be ok around her? I am so torn about what to do. Hopefully someone here can give me some suggestions.

| Is it possible to let the puppy come to visit him often until you actually bring the pup home? This way, they can start getting used to each other. I had Jake for a year when I brought Jackson home. Actually, we took Jake with us to pick Jackson up at the breeders. Jake didn't like Jackson at first. He was very jealous and used to having mommy to himself. We just kinda let them get to know each other in their own way. They were both a little intimidated at first, but before we knew it, Jake wasn't jealous anymore and Jackson was his best friend. It might be hard in the beginning, but I bet if the two dogs are just given some time, they will become friends in no time! I had to pay lots of extra attention to Jake at first because I didn't want him to feel left out. It just takes a little time. Good luck!

| If Diggy seems to be getting less active, it might be a sign he is ready for a playmate. I just somehow knew when Gracie was ready. She went with me when I picked up Holly. She too was curious. I just gave each their own space, and I mean everything their own. Their own crate, their own pen, their own dishes, their own toys. Gracie got fed first, got played with first and got loved first. After a while, Gracie and Holly became the best of friends and now they are pretty much inseparable. They do everything together and Gracie is VERY protective of Holly. Just be careful not to pick a puppy that is more controlling, more alpha, than Diggy. Playful is one thing, but controlling is another.

| When we first introduced Miko to my mom's puppy, he wanted nothing to do with him, and did not play with him for 2 weeks, but after 2 weeks, they became inseparable!! They became best of friends

Donating YT 30K Club Member | When we brought in Cali, my 8 year old pom was ok, she was pretty much a loner anyway. When I brought in Pixie, Cali was a little put our for a few weeks but they get over it. Then when I brought in Roxie, they all didn't like her at first, after a few weeks they all lay together and Pixie and Roxie chase through the house like crazy. They really do keep each other company,

| same thing here, first came Chewy then Choupette, Chewsy ignored her for about a week and then came Tucson and because he was so tiny I was really scared they would hurt him seeing they are bigger but none of that happened although they do play quite rough at times. but all in all they just have a lot of fun.

My furkids Donating Member | My husband and I work all day and I used to drop Sadie off with my parents...I didn't like leaving her alone all day long. We got Lillie when Sadie was about 1 1/2 yrs old. I thought this way I could leave her in her home with her toys and a little sister to play with. Well.....she was NOT HAPPY at all with her new 1.6 lb sister! Matter of fact all I kept thinking was "what have I done"! Sadie seemed so sad...didn't want to play and would growl at Lillie...Sadie would go to sniff her and Lillie would try to play...Sadie didn't want this...AT ALL! It took a few weeks for her to get used to having to share her Mom with someone else...Now they are best buds. I would block the puppy from your other furbaby for a while until they get used to each other.

| WE just got our third Yorkster girl right before Christmas. She was 14 weeks old and the other two were three years old. Zada started vomiting and having diarrhea. Azrael had a couple boughts of diarrhea but she got over it very quickly and seemed to like the new family member, but didn't play with her right at first. Zada was a mess for two weeks, but she finally accepted Razael and then things calmed down and they all became best buds! |

| Wow! Thsi is an issue EVERYDAY at our house! We got Cosmo last May and in August when I started back to work from summer break I thought it would be good to get him a playmate! Well, along came JJ in December and even though they get a long for the most part, Cosmo would rather be an only pup pup. He will push JJ out of the bed, won't share a kennel, and it is very hard to play with both at the same time becuase Comso vies for most of the attention, even lifting his paw to get my attention and small grumbles if he is not the center of attention. I sometime think of getting another one becuase I just adore the breed and their kind hearts but I can't imagine the sibiling riverly and how to play and put them all in the bed. What was really interesting is we have and had a cat named Max and Cosmo was fine with him, even used to sleep on him. I guess my advice, if you have a friend with a yorkie have it over on along weekend and see what happens.

| I have a new puppy also (since November). He is now 9 months old. My first yorkie, Gizmo, is 10 years old and it was a big decision for me to get another. They have done just great. I have worked in the veterinarian business for 11 years and had lots of advice. Try to introduce them on neutral territory if you can. Outside, someone elses house, etc. Let them outside in the yard together, loose if you can and give both plenty of space. Also walking them together on separate leashes is a good bonding experience. Be very easy but firm with your older yorkie about how he has to behave around the new puppy. Like children they crave discipline. I have been amazed at how much Barkley (the puppy) has picked up from Gizmo. He has potty trained 100 times quicker than Giz did. They are great together and I am sorry I did not do it sooner. I was the same way you are, afraid I might hurt Giz's feelings. Just try to make the older dog feel very, very special. He will adjust. Belinda |

| Thanks so much to everyone that replied! This information helped a lot. We took Diddy to see the puppy again tonight and he did a little better. He is still a bit scared of her but he stood his ground. She is a spunky little thing and I think that scares him. He goes up to her and sniffs her, but as soon as she runs towards him he runs away. His tail was always standing up and he did drool again. We are going to take him to see her again on Thursday and probably bring her home on Friday. I truly hope it works out because I want Diddy to be happy.

| I am getting a new girl in about two weeks and although Cash was an only child for about a year, I am looking after my sister's nine-year old labrador, Mauzer, and Cash loves the company. I think he likes to have someone to play with and because Mauzer isn't allowed upstairs (he has arthritis and we fear that he will hurt himself) Cash is fine coz he sleeps alone in Mommy's bed. The new baby, June Carter, will be sharing his space a lot more and I know he will be angry with me for about two weeks, but I also know that he will love to have another hyperactive and young dog to play with.
