Hi all! I've been lurking around here for a couple weeks now, so I figured it was about time to introduce myself. In two weeks, I will be the proud owner of my first Yorkie puppy! This will be my first time owning a small dog - we've been a doberman family before! (Don't worry though, they were the lap dog type of doberman - totally spoiled!) I'm so excited to get my puppy, of course! I've been learning a lot just from reading the threads here!

Anyway, about the puppy. It's a little boy, and so far he is definitely the chunky one of the litter! He almost looks as wide as he is long, haha! I've visited him at 2, 4, and 6 weeks, and I should be able to bring him home at 8 weeks. Which kind of leads me to a question - I've read that for Yorkie's they should be kept up to 12 weeks before going to the new owner. But I've read some things on here about people having them at 8, so is it all right? I know the breeders actually have some young children, and I'm a bit worried that the boys are rough with the puppies, so I think it might be best to get him as early as I can (plus, I just want him as early as I can!

) Anyway, we're still trying for a name, but so far Bailey is winning out. Any other suggestions would be great, though! We've also thought about Max (Maximus), Duke, and a few others that escape my mind.

I'm going to try to attach a picture, so hopefully it works. I look forward to chatting with you all in the future!

Hello and welcome to yorkietalk! I think they esay it is best for puppies to be adopted at 12 weeks because of socialization. Having said that I got my female at 8 weeks old and she was fine.

Welcome! What a cutie and he looks so healthy! Opinions vary, just do your research on what you need and what to look for in puppies that young before bringing the little fellow home! You are in for a wonderful time with your new puppy! On names, I heard a cute and rare name the other day and thought if I ever got a little boy I would use it myself - Paxton! I like unusual names. Best wishes - the time will fly!

Welcome and what a cutie pie!!!! I got Coco at 9 weeks and she is just fine and dandy. I would be too excited to leave her there for another 4-6 weeks

I say go for it.

What a cute face! Welcome to YT! I got Olivia at 12 weeks, so I'm not going to be much help. Just wanted to say hi, and we can't wait for more pictures!

Hi and welcome! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it really is essential that the litter remain together to 10 weeks at least. We keep ours to 12. Yes, they can be 'fine', but socialization development will be affected. Ask how many people who got their pups early had problems with behavior/ biting? If you can convince the breeder it will help not just your pup, but the others as well. I would also mention your concern about the kids handling of the pups, though they may take offense.

Hi...what a cutie..I have a Maximus

.... I got Maximus at almost 11 weeks, (since he was the biggest in the litter I was allowed to take him 1 week and 1 day early)...I know that I have HEARD that yorkies shouldn't leave before 10 weeks so maybe an extra week would be good?

Your little man is precious! Definitely a manly name. Yep, Duke or Zorro (because it looks like he has on a mask).

We waited till Mickey was 11 weeks before bringing him home and he was also the biggest in the litter. I think it made a big difference to let him remain with the litter this long as others have already mentioned. He didn't seem to suffer any seperation anxiety and was well socialized and even partially potty trained by the time we got him. Your new pup is just adorable. Reminds me of Mickey at that age with the ears down. Now Mickey's ears are standing up and he is 17 weeks. The other name we considered was Teddy.

Welcome to YT!! Your baby is SO adorable! What a looker! I would ask the breeder to keep him 12 weeks if possible, for socialization purposes. I think the name BAILEY is very cute! Bood luck and post more pictures soon! We love pics!

I got my big boy at 7 weeks. a big concern is whether or not they will eat. My big guy never had any trouble eating he cobbles down anything in his path. I have learned that the 8th week is when the mom teaches the pups when it's okay to bite and bark and how hard to bite. My little guy is a biter, but I'm being the mom and teaching him that's not okay. No problems with seperation anxiety expect on my part. I can't stand being away from the little guy. He's strong and tough, and dependent. I guess it just depends on the pups. I'd listen to the expert breeders on the site. I didn't find this site til after I got my pup so i made a few mistakes.
