| Does anyone have a Yorkie and a Shih Tzu? Diddy is now 1 year old and I am thinking about getting another puppy so he has a friend. Does anyone have a Shih Tzu and a Yorkie? Do they get along ok? Diddy is a little over 9 lbs so I want to get a dog similar to this size. What other breed would be a good match?

| I don't personally have a Shih Tzu, but my office neighbor at work does and she brings her to work with her every day like I do Scooter. She's his favorite playmate. Since your Yorkie is about 9 pounds, I don't think there would be a problem. We have to watch my friend's Shih Tzu around Scooter so that they don't get too rough, because she's 9 pounds and Scooter is only 4 pounds (he can completely disappear underneath her). Anyway, I think your baby would be fine. |

YT 500 Club Member | We have a Yorkie (of course), and my step-son has a Shih Tzu. They brought their dog to our house on Thanksgiving, and the two got along just great.

| I have a 4 pound yorkie and my parents have a much larger Shi-tzu. They LOVE each other. My grandma has a 6 or 7 pound Yorkie and a 9 or 10 pound Maltese. They are truly the best of friends. What's nice is neither of those breeds shed. Shi-tzu would probably be a fine choice, or you may consider a Maltese as well.

| Simon has a great shih tzu friend at daycare. Her name is Zoe and she always jumps up on the chair Simon is sitting on and sits ON HIM! It's hilarious. We also used to have some neighbors with a shih tzu and they all got along wonderfully. I think they are adorable |

| My parent have 2 shih Tzu (big chunky girls at about 16 lbs). Snickers my 10 teapot loves them. When he know that we are getting close to my parents house he starts to shiver with excitement.

| I do! I do!! We have Reggie, an 11 year old Shih Tzu and Coby, a 1 year old Yorkie. They are the best of buds. The two breeds to me are so interesting together - they are polar opposites in energy levels for the most part. When we got Reggie, I researched extensively for a dog that would go with a family with two young children who were always on the go to school and sports functions.... needed a dog that needed to be loved, had energy with kids, but who was not demanding. Shih Tzu's adjust nicely to whatever energy level your family already has. A Shih Tzu fit the bill perfectly. And now that our kids are in college and we're home a lot more, we could get the Yorkie we always wanted! Coby has definitely gotten Reggie up off the couch a lot more, so that's really good. And Coby is "fairly" good at realizing when ol' Reg has had enough. Off topic a bit, but Reggie has always hated the groomer, but since getting Coby, our groomer can't believe the change in Reg. He actually walks in under his own power now and is much better adjusted. I think being the dominant big brother in the relationship has been really good for him. So ... in my humble opinion..... these are the BEST two small dog breeds. And they seem to compliment each other so well. Reggie keeps Coby calmer and Coby keeps Reggie younger.

| I have both and couldn't be happier with them. I also have Maltese. They are my 3 favorite breeds. None of them shed and they all get along. Mikki (Shih Tzu) quickly became a favorite of the whole family. I am sure you would be happy with your choice if you decide to add a Shih Tzu to your family. |

| We have a Yorkie and a shihtzu. My son also brings over his 2 shihtzus. The shihtzus are very calm and laid back. We have to keep an eye on our little Yorkie because he can turn aggressive and actually hurt the shihtzus even though the shihtzus are bigger. I had to post this as I just finished giving him a firm no for being so aggressive. |

| Thanks for your replies everyone. I know someone who has a little girl Shih tzu and I have ben trying to decide if getting a puppy is a good idea. Is having 2 dogs much more work that one? I see so many people here that have numerous dogs and often wonder how you do it. I might take Diddy to go see the Shih tzu and see how they react to each other.
