So can anyone explain to me WHYYYYYYY he still poops in his crate ? then he packs it down to the crate it is sooo hard to get out & it is still soft !!!!! & MY GOSH the SMELL IS HORRIBLE !! grown adults #2 would smell better !!! i feed him eukanuba small puppy formula. I was having this problem earlier along but he was in a bigger crate so i went out and got the smallest one for him. I take him out. I do everything i have been told but, he still does it in his crate !!!! I did give him his heartwork meds. which is the brand revolution. has anyone used this ?? could this cause his poop ?? i have thought about everything !! i will take any advice possible. I only feed him the amount on the bag which is like 1 cup and 1/4, & i do that thru out the day. He does not eat after 5pm. he does not drink after 7pm. OH & he also pee's in his crate & gets it alllllll over him. i dont know what to do ??? i put puppy pads down and he just tears them up. He is 5 months old & he wont even go outside to use the bathroom. i have to pick him up and put him outside. I am a full time student i go to school tuesday thru thursday 8am-7pm & friday and saturday 9-4pm. But my boyfriends mother lets him out through out the day. *** we live with her*** BUT when i came home today the house smelt b/c of his poop & it still smells a little bit. I love Cash to death & i really want him potty trained & not in a crate or laying in his poop. but im seriously being drove CrAzY. Any advice ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Also what do ya'll think about the petsmart puppy potty training classes ??

| How often does your boyfriend's mom let him out of his crate each day? I'm no "expert" on potty training pups by ANY stretch but.....since he's still not housebroken, I would think he needs to be let out quite a bit more than he may be right now. Have you tried to train him on pee pads? When we got Gage, he was such a scared little puppy (I rescued him from an abusive home - the idiot gave him to me cause Gage kept peeing in the house - he didn't even try to housebreak him!). I bought some pee pads for accidents and now almost 3 years later, he will only go on the pee pads. He will tinkle outside but #2 is left for his pee pad - he's very proud of his pads Chin up - sometimes it just takes longer and a great deal more patience. Just keep working with him - and maybe check into an X-pen. Gives him more freedom of movement (he's confined in his crate a good deal from what I gather in your post). Put a pee pad on one side of the x-pen and his crate on the other so he can get in and out to sleep. See if that helps any. Best of luck!

| We use to keep Tilly in a crate when we left but she hated it and always pooped in it. It wasn't worth the stress on her to keep her in it. Now we block off a section of our apartment for her to run and play. Tilly is rarely home alone and never for very long. I'd try pee pads.

| I think any dog would hate to be locked up in a bathroom especially yorkies cuz they love to be around people. I agree that an x-pen would be better even though your puppy may not like that too much either at first but it's better than a closed in bathroom. Give him some toys to keep him occupied. As far as the smelly poop, it's probably the food. Try him on something else until you find one that agrees more with his system. Good puppy food may reduce the amount that he poops too! Not all dogs won't poop where they sleep so it's going to take some patience on your part to teach him where he needs to go (on the pee pad). He's young and, again, you'll probably just need to be patient and work with him.

| I am not an expert on house training. But I do believe different brand of food might help with the smelly poop problem. Chloe was on Canidae dry food and she was doing great on it. Of coz she still poop a lot until I switched her to Nature Variety RAW food and I do notice her poop MUCH MUCH MUCH less!!! Good luck!!! I am sure someone on here can give you better advise.... |

| Piper was a "crate pooper" too. I ended up getting an XPen reallycheap at a garage sale. Every family that has kids seems to eventually be selling one! I lined the floor with plastic camping tarp and I put in a piddle pad and toys and her food and a little bed. It does take a bit of space. But this way she wasn't locked away. The tarp protected the floor nicely too. We went the route of using piddle pads rather than outside training because we live in an apartment and have no yard. Did this until just last month. Now Piper (almost 9 months) has run of half the apartment. I still have a bit of tarp out under the piddle pad because she doesn't know where the back half of her body is....if the front paws are on the pad, she thinks she's "good to go!". Anyway, you might like using the xpen because it keeps them out where they can see you and, being pack animals, they like to be with the pack. Yorkies are SO social! Oh..and 2nd on the Natures Variety RAW. The poop doesn't smell at all really. I think her stinkiest was with Innova Evo. |

| OH..meant to say that buying the Advance Housebreaking Pad Frame was a great "Under $5" purchase for us. It holds the pads in place and for some reason detracted Piper when she was going through that piddle pad destruction stage that Cash seems to be in right now. |

| how to fix that Ok what you need to do is forget about the crate he is to young and will continue to poop. What you have to do is get a wee wee pad and put it in the bathroom and watch him every minute. He will start walking funny sniffing, pick him up and go to the bathroom and let him poop and once he goes in the bathroom make a big scandal, a happy scandal and say good boy! and give him a treat. he'll respond to that faster you must do this for 2days straight meaning the weekend. then if you have time during the week. He'll get it. once he knows he suppose to go in the bathroom then he'll continue. Then you can challenge him to the crate training. One thing you must know bigger pups never want to go poop where the eat and sleep but you must show him where to start. I hope this helps. BTW my pups crate was next to the bathroom. just so he wouldn't forget the Scandal humans happy place lol Last edited by marios13; 02-24-2008 at 07:30 AM. |

| A small crate is the way to go. But if the pup has room so walk from one end to the other, more than just to get up and turn around, then it is still too big. You;ll have to fill up the back end of the crate with something to block it off till the pup gets bigger. I take a small blanket, and roll it up to block off the back end. As they get bigger, you can give them more room. I've trained 3 dogs this way and it works great. I also put in a sweat shirt that I've had on so the pup has my scent. I also play music or leave the TV on while I'm gone. I hope you work it out. |

| First I want to give your boyfriends Mom a because that is very sweet for her to help you with your new puppy, she must really like you. Second Im sorry you have to have surgery and hopefully you will have a very speedy recovery. I think weve talked about Izzy and Kash before. Dont feel bad Izzy is making very little progress. I dont think weve done the puppy potty dance 1 time yet and weve had her 14 days. If I catch her in the act I will tell her no and take her to a pad and she thinks Im playing so I guess she sucks it back up lol sorry TMI!! She stays in my master bathroom when we cant watch her with a gate and we keep the TV on Animal Planet. She is perfect in every way except potty training . Shes not much of a barker she doesnt cry much (never cries during the night until about 7:00 am). I have put down a plastic table cloth (3.50 at dollar store) right in front of the gate I used duck tape to keep it secure, and I have to put a puppy pad down right on top of the table cloth I used duct tape to secure that also, the pad is right in front of the gate and thats where she pees most of the time . Ive tried to move it to another area and it doesnt work. She also has a closet area in the bathroom with food water and another puppy pad and she never uses it, but thats where I want her to go. Izzy is 4 months old. I feel so much more ease since I put down that plastic because I know pee is not sitting on the floor. As far as food we just started with a new one yesterday, the breeder had her on royal conin 33 and Ive bought Taste of the Wild (6 star and 21.99 for a 15lb bag at Tractor Supply) and she loves it, Ive just given her a few kibbles because she will pick these out and eat them and leave the RC and I dont want her to get the runs lol. Im sorry this is long but I wanted you to know that Im not having a easy time with potty training. Hang in there hopefully it will get better for us.

| sophie's crate is also small, yet she still poops in it. she does the same, but she steps in it and smells so awful when i let her out. i only put her in there when i leave the house though. i finally started putting pee pads in the crate, so i don't have to scrape up her "poop pancakes" as i have called them. she's only 11 weeks old, but her potty training is coming along nicely.. |
