| Toy Yorkie Comment at my favorite pet supply Okay, I may have been a little short but I was upset. I went into my local owner owned Pet Supply which is the ONLY place I can buy my puppies food and when I picked up the 5lb bag the clerk suggested a bigger bag for cost savings. I said I only have 2 little yorkies so this will last a month and they like it fresh. To which she commented "Oh you must have Toy yorkies" to which I replied "There is no such thing as a toy yorkie." THEN she said "Yes there is we get them here to sell from a broker." UGH UGH UGH UGH I informed her that any responsible breeder would not clasify them as a TOY yorkie that the standard is no larger than 7 lbs which is small enough considering their small frames. I am so bummed, I have never seen any yorkies for sale in the store but I am so offended and disturbed that not only are they a local owned store selling broker puppies from back east, but they are also not informed as to the breed standards that I don't want to go back. I was a little short with her but considering her comments was I allowed? What should I do now, order their food and treats online? Ugh I am so bummed!

| So sorry you went through that. It's hard when some people just don't get it. If you can afford to, I'd personally buy your food and treats elsewhere because any money you spend there helps them stay in business and buy more puppy mill pups. Good for you for trying to educate! |

| I will never buy anything from a store that sells puppies. If I were you, I'd order food online from now on and let the store know why you won't be shopping there any longer. And then I'd do what I could to get them shut down.

| By the way I buy them the California Natural Lamb and Rice. It is all Cosmo will eat..he is so picky! I also buy the glucosime peanut butter treats which are almost impossible to find. Any suggestions on the best online ordering? You are right, even as a first time owner to Yorkies I cannot go back there and have any piece of mind. I feel in a way kind of "stuck up" but my two little men are average weight and I was almost bambuzzled into purchasing a 1.9 lb yorkie for $2,500.00 when I was first looking. Thanks to this site I educated myself first before buying. By the way my 11 month old is 5.9 lbs and my chunkie little 4 mo old is 3.1 lbs My youngest JJ (Jumpin' Jaxon) is not picky!

| puppies I agree, do your shopping elsewhere and definitely let the store know you are going to shop elsewhere and why. I think I would write them a letter and spell it out for them. You might include the Yorkie standard and some info about puppymills and brokers. Can't hurt and someone there might actually think about it. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Hey, I wouldn't worry about anyone describing them wrongly. I get, teacup (even though she's 4lbs), toy, miniature, shih tzu, maltese (I don't know either), Car payment (after I tell them the price, which I stopped), rat, Yorkie mix, etc. I just laugh and say sure.... |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | You could send some literature to her on the subject, including a letter at how you feel as a yorkie owner and about them using brokers. How you've loved their store but have a problem with this. Maybe it will help, maybe it won't, but you'd feel you at least tried. It may give them something to think about and there's probably others that shop there that feel the same way you do. (((hugs)))
