Travel with Yorkies

Has anyone here taken their Yorkie on the plane???

I am taking Calleigh with me when I go to see my sister and it is a fairly long trip. Calleigh will be 6 mos. old by then, but she is still very, very small.
and I just want some advice as to what to take, etc.

We have to take 2 different planes and there is a 2 hour wait at the first airport.

Don't feed her before the trip. Take a bottle of water. Place a potty pad in the carrier and also take a couple extra. On your layover you can take her to the rest room and put a pad down to let her relieve herself. You can then give her a little water. Maybe take some wet wipes just in case she vomits. You can also give her Rescue Remedy 45 minutes before take off. It's all natural and helps calm them. Good luck on your trip and have fun.

Plus, I take Nutrical and give it to her on the layover. And make sure you go to the vet within a few days of the flight- the health certificate is only good for 10-30 days (depending on the state) and you'll need it for the return flight too.

I put premie diapers on Purl, but she is younger. And a onesie. Too cute!

Purl's carrier has a heater that goes in the microwave for five minutes and then stays warm for 12 hours. She falls right to sleep when that is in her carrier. And a favorite cuddle toy, of course.

Remember to bring her harness and leash onto the plane with you for the layover. Better safe than sorry.

I am worried and its not my pup, mainly Why no food? wouldn't it be worse for the pups sugar levels to go without eating (plus the stress of the trip)? Just wondering.

We don't have any hypoglycemia problems, but I do keep an eye on her. If the layover is going to be long, I may give her food. Mostly, its just to avoid an upset tummy. I give Purl the nutrical to keep her steady.

Thanks to everyone for the advice!

I am bringing some of her food in a small back for the stop over and some of the Puppy Training Pads. I notice she isn't going as often now that she is older and I have been taking her out in my "Puppy Carrier" (like a Backpack, but in the front). She is quite good - I've taken her shopping, for a couple of hours and she is soooooooo good. This is to get her used to the trip. I am also bringing some Handy wipes, etc. and will buy fresh water for her. The harness is a good idea - she still doesn't like it, but she will be safer so it is necessary.

She is so precious to me and a little angel.

When I had a long lay-over in Atlanta, I found an out-of-way corner and took Cocoa out of her carrier. She enjoyed it and was ready to settle down when we boarded for the remainder of our flight.

All the advice is good, but I would add that you should wear something pretty because you will get lots of attention traveling with an adorable little Yorkie!

i fly with tumi all the time..i just make sure she doesn't eat or drink prior to the flight..she loves her petflys carrier and she feels safe in there so she's good in there for at least 5hr! she just sleeps..sometimes i unzip the bag so she could come and sit on my lap but she doesn't want to come out! i only do it when the flight attendents are nice! at the airport while wating for the flight, i just usually sit ant the quite corner and i let her out and ofcourse i put the harness and the leash on to have control of her. i usually pack the pee ppe pad and just lay it there to see if she wants to go. and after we land i would take her to the rest room and just lay the pee pads and she would usually just go. i don't have any problem flying with them. she doesn't cry or bark on the plane..she just sleeps! oh, before the flight i would walk her for like an hour before we leave the house.

i agree dont feed them before the flight,
i took lola from europe to vancouver, the trip was 19 hours in total, she took it ok, i took pee pee pads with me and at the airport went into handicap bathrooms and let her walk around and pee
