Personally, I would buy from a BYB before a puppy mill. Many BYB's treat their animals very well and you may get a very decent puppy from them. There are many "show kennels" that are really byb's. They breed dogs to sell and that may be your opportunity to purchase a decent puppy. I wasn't able to use the link that you provided so you have to decide if you are dealing with a BYB or a mill and if you are willing to buy from a mill.

People are probably going to object to any endorsement of a BYB but then again, many breeders fall in that category but they don't want to admit it. In reality, somebody has to supply the demand for the purebred puppies people want and a show kennel that keeps most of it's stock for show, is not going to be able to meet that demand because their objective is not breeding pets is it?

Well technically, anyone who breeds a dogs is a breeder. A mill, a show kennel, BYB, all are breeders.

Also, there are different types of show kennels. A mill is a mill, however, and the dogs that are kept there are poor victims of unfeeling humans. Some are worse than others but in the best ones, the dogs are kept as stock, not as dogs should be kept.

Then there are the breeders who breed dogs for money but the dogs are kept in beautiful conditions. You will probably get a very decent dog from such a breeder, as well as a decent pedigree. You could even get a show quality dog from some of these breeders because they sell the puppies at a young age and don't even know how they turn out. Sometimes the term BYB is used for someone who has a dog, mates it and advertises the puppies for sale in the newspaper. The only reason to buy a dog from this person would be a cheap price. You would probably get the same quality of puppy from such a breeder as you would from a mill. I would want to see both parents, however. Young puppies can turn out much different from what they look like as puppies and this "breeder" has no idea in the world how they will turn out.

Anyone who shows their dogs is a show kennel. And these run the gamut from small, 3 or 4 litters a year -- to large operations. Some show kennels support their hobby (and themselves) by selling pet puppies.

The show kennels that breed for the sport and competition usually have only occassional puppies for sale as pets. These breeders, often don't need the money. They share their dogs with like-minded breeders. Often times the puppies are a little bit older because the breeder holds onto the puppies to see how the puppies turn out. One may become available as a pet for one reason or another -- a minor flaw or sometimes such a breeder will sell a puppy of the opposite sex of what she wanted out of the breeding. These will always be on a limited registration.

And within these situations (except mills) the breeders, and their kennels, are as individual as people are. I've seen puppies kept in human-baby conditions, with mobiles hanging over their cribs. This looks a little over the top to me. Personally, I would be a little scared of such a person, but that doesn't mean you won't get a nice dog from them either.

In my opinion, if you are looking for a puppy, decide on size, sex and your budget. If you are looking for a high quality pet, there are so many people that advertise on the internet with puppies available. I think it is a good opportunity to find a puppy with champion parents. Anyone who advertises "teacups" or "minies" or some equally ignorant term, is, well, ignorant of their own breed and sort of embarassing. If you want a tiny Yorkie, many times good people get Yorkies that are simply small.

These, of course, are only my opinions and you know what they say about opinions.... everyone has one.

The name is a bit of a put-off and makes me wonder, but I wouldn't rule them out just for the name. Still can't get the site to work..but saw a few ads. Not much info on them, but I would not buy from someone that advertises teacups. Puppies are cute in the pictures, but most puppies are cute. 10 adults isn't that many...not enough to make me automatically rule them out.

I always suggest going to www.ytca.org and looking at their breeder list...it's normally a good place to start. Some of those breeders can probably recommend other good ones to you if they don't have puppies available
