| Need some ideas Hi guys, My husband and I have been arguing pretty bad for a few days now. He keeps complaining that the whole house smells like pee. We have a total of 5 furbabies. I have 2 furbabies one goes outside the other is pee pad trained but when weather is good she will go outside. The other 3 belong to my daughters and they are all pee pad trained. The pee pads are in bathroom and in their rooms. We have hardwood floors and I mop them everyday my house is very clean so I don't really now why is acting this way. By the way he's not a dog lover at all. It's been none stop rain out here so I haven't been able to open windows. Any advice? He's threatening to sell all of them

| I'm not sure? What type of pee-pad are you using? Maybe try a different kind of pee-pad. I hate to say this, but maybe some pee has gotten into the wood floors. I know you said you mop everyday, so maybe not. We have hardwood too and I have been afraid of that. |

| I've noticed that when it's raining or the humidity is high (Texas ) my house sorta smells like a dog even though it's clean and the dogs go outside. I have friends with dogs that have the same problem. Maybe that's it??

| We found that the pee pad on the floor leaked around the edges and if it got too saturated there was pee underneath when we picked it up. So we finally got one of these (see pic below). It works really well to keep pee off the floor. We also found our furbaby had used some of our area rugs as pee pads, so we took those up, and don't use area rugs since she can't tell what is okay and what isn't to pee on. We have carpeting, so we had Stanley Steemer out to do a good carpet cleaning and that helped tremendously with any lingering odor. We've now moved the whole thing out to our deck so that Pookie can go out there when the weather is bad and it now doesn't effect us in the house. Last edited by Sweetums; 01-27-2008 at 06:56 PM. |

| P.S. Forgot to mention that the pee pad holder is called an Iris Pad Holder and is available online as well as at Amazon.com. |

| Thanks - I have noticed that sometimes the pads are soaked even though I change them daily. Pee has gone through a few times

| You might try moping with vinegar and water. If the urine has soaked into the wood then when it is humid the ammonia forms. Vinegar neutralizes the ammonia. |

| I'd also try lighting a lampberge maybe when your husband is at home. They come in tons of scents and you won't need to worry about having an open flame like you do with candles. Ace Hardware has a great selection of the lampberges and the oils.

| We've never had our dog go over the edge of the pee pad holder. The sides around it are sloped up, so if they pee close to the edge, it runs right back down to the pad itself and soaks in there. The edges are molded plastic, so easy enough to wipe down, and the pads are a little large for it, so the plastic edges of the pad fit nicely under the snap-down edges making it unlikely the pee could go underneath. The tray below the pad also has a ridge around the outside, preventing pee from escaping even if it leaked underneath. In short, we've never had one drop to clean up outside the pad holder since we got it. Read the reviews on amazon.com. Last edited by Sweetums; 01-27-2008 at 11:59 PM. |
