Hello everyone, my name is Cynthia, and my little bundle of fun is GIZMO. I got GIZ, Jan 1st 2007, when he was 6 weeks old, so needless to say as of a couple of days ago we have been together for one year. I live in a small country town east of Dallas Tx, with my husband, GIZ, a chow named pepper and a sheppard named lexy as well as a couple of horses.

The center of our home is without a doubt Gizmo. He has literally taken complete control and has my The and I eating out of his hand. I would like to ask an unusual question if I may.

Giz has gone to the same groomer here in my small town since the day I got him. I would take him there and became friends with the groomer herself, so I would just sit and chat with her while she worked on Giz. The first time I watched, (this is kinda graphic) as she began to bathe Gizmo. At some point she began to clean something on Giz that she referred to as a "rectal sack). I thought this was disgusting to say the least. She tried to explain that dogs have some kind of sack and that dogs need to have that aery cleaned out.

My problem is this, the groomer has disssapared and closed up shop. I have been givingthis bathing thing a try for myself however, can someone tell me what is the part of the rectum called that has to be cleaned out, and how do you clean that area? I was told by the groomer that the rectum can become impacked so I want to make sure I am dong the right thing until I find another groomer.

Hello, WELOCOME to YT, I think the part you are refering to is Anal glands ..................I dont know how to clean them, I always have the groomers do it for my dogs. I am sure someone with experience will help you, Good luck

Cleaning out anal glands is a delicate procedure for these little ones. I learned more than I wanted when my sweet Bubba's gland burst last year. So helping them out, is important. I would recommend taking Gizmo to the vet & have them teach you in person how to do this or just pay them to handle the very smelly matter.

If you want to proceed ahead, you can use the search option on YT & search anal glands, perhaps someone can explain it better. What I can tell you is imagine a clock & then the build up is at about 5 & 7 - that's how it was explained to me. If you proceed yourself, I recommend some KYJ jelly (I think that's what the lubricant is called) & some latex gloves

Hi, thank you for responding to my post. I just found this site yesterday, oh my God this is great. Of course I thought I was the only person alive that treated her yorkie like her son. It is fantastic to see so many yorkie lovers in one place.

The lady that sent the response I was looking for is correct in referring to the "anal gland". Thats what I was looking for. My groomer closed up shop, so I am bathing my baby myself and I remembered we had talked about keeping the gland cleaned out.

I am in Kaufman, 30 miles east of Dallas, I just came in from taking my spoiled brat out for a run. He loves to go outside. All though I don't let him out much in the summer months because this Tas weather can be brutal.

I live next door to my groomer, but the anal glands should never be messed with, unless the dog is having problems with them, and I'm sure the puppy wasn't having problems with his, so, it really should never have been done. The groomer showed me how to do the anal glands, and you have to be very careful, but, I don't mess with our dogs..if they need done, either the groomer does them, or I would take them to the vet. Hi Heather, thank you so much for the welcome. I just found this site and I am going to have to be careful because I will spend all day on this forum. (lol). I was supprised to find so many yorkie lovers who treat their little ones like children, I thought I was the only one.

Thank you for letting me know, I was unsure if that was something that needed to be done on a regular basis or not. I do need to find another groomer, which is going to be hard in my area. When I use to take him, I would it an chat while they did Gizmo, so I did not have to drop him off and come back later. The problem is I know I will have to drive little ways, and it doesn't make sense to drive home only to turn around and go back.

So for now I will continue to do it myself.

I "think" there is a groomer in Crandall...I think she is in with a Vets office????? I can check it out....We have family all around that area.....Seven Points, Kemp, Gun Barrel City...
