Hi everyone, this will be our first winter with Kiki so I wanted some opinions from those with more experience. We live in MA and have plenty of snow on the ground now ... our temps the past few days have been in the single digits. Kiki doesn't go out for walks now and potties on pads. We basically just throw her toys around the house and she runs after them.

I was planning on skipping Kiki's Frontline application during the winter months but I just saw the weather for the next week and we are expected to have temps between 50 to 60 degrees. I would love to take advantage of the warmer weather and take Kiki out for walks again. Do you think fleas and ticks would be present for a week again even if we have had such cold/snowy weather for over a month? I hate to use Frontline if I don't have to but I also dont' want to take a chance with any bugs.

I wouldn't use it. It is a pesticide, so it is poison. I would use it as least as possible and take the chance. What's the worst that can happen? She could get fleas and you give it to her and it kills them then...

I use frontline on mine, but, use the sentinel( a pill) on my shepherd...with the cooler weather(and we're in SC) I don't put anything on any of mine, and won't again until spring time. I doubt the fleas will come out for the week, and if he/she gets a flea, you can buy a capstar from the vets office, they're very inexpensive and kills fleas right away. The vets here always give them one before surgery even if they don't have a flea on them..

Thanks for the replies. I am going to skip the application this month and for the rest of the winter. I hate to use such a toxic chemical anyhow so a few months off is better for Kiki in the longrun. I'll just keep her walking on the street and not on any grassy areas.
