| New owner questions Hi. This is my first post here. I have a new 13 week old yorkie puppy named Boo. I have a couple of general questions. First, what is the best kind of harness to get that will fit her? Also, what is the best shampoo to use that will make her smell good? I'm really learning a lot from this site! |

| Hi! Welcome to YorkieTalk! I am so glad that you already know how important a harness is. I wouldn't spend a lot of money on a harness right now since Boo is so young. She will grow quite a bit. I like the step-in style harnesses since they don't ride anywhere near the trachea. To order one you need to measure your puppy. I will try to find a link for you on how to measure. This is a good time to order one, because you really shouldn't take your puppy anywhere (even for a walk) until she's had all of her shots (not just the first set). Parvo is a scary disease, and you need to avoid it at all costs. I like a variety of shampoos, but right now I'm using the Buddy Wash and Buddy Rinse from Barkaholics. They have sample sizes you can order for $2. I'll get that link for you in a few minutes as well. We LOVE photos here, so we would really like to see some of Boo. Welcome!

| Welcome to YorkieTalk You can use any dog shampoo you like. I would stay away from Hartz products though (animals have died from their flea products). Human shampoos aren't recommended because they dry out their skin. The two people shampoos you might be able to use are baby shampoo (Johnson and Johnson) or Oatmeal shampoo (Aveeno or something similar). These are the two kinds I use on Ellie. I just use a regular harness from the petstore.

| Hi there! YAY!!! Another Kentuckian!!! I use Chris Christensen products (www.chrissystems.com). But I know that there are other products that are for PUPPIES!!! But FYI, it is great to get your little gal used to being groomed. LOTS of combing and brushing while they are little!!! It will make a big difference in a few months! (and as the coat gets longer.... if you decide to keep her in a full coat) There is a great Oatmeal shampoo that is gentle on skin- I have seen it at Incredipet and also at Petsmart. There are some step in harnesses that work really well......... but definitely use a harness, keep the pressure off the neck area!! (a collar is great for ID tags & etc.) ALSO there some great YT vendors that make harness vests that work wonderfully. I know that I have some made by go.fetch that are awesome. (but she is really busy, so you may have to wait awhile... until she opens her harness dept again!) Good luck!!!

| Hi fellow Kentuckian!!! My yorkie is about the same age as yours. I just bought a step in harness from our local pet store. I use Equyss Shampoo and Conditioner which is great for puppies. It leaves her smelling great and she has such a shiny coat afterwards. I use Spa Lavish on my westie. Enjoy your baby and have a Happy New Year!!

| Welcome to Yorkietalk. My only advice is to get a ex-pen and a step in harness. Make sure you take her to try it on. Do not let her walk on the floor and Petsmart or Petco.
