| indoor potty solutions I'm looking for some ideas I use disposable pee pads right now with a tray that holds them. I have 1 in the kitchen and 1 in our bedroom for sleep time. I have 2 issues with these, first the girls feet get wet when they stand on them YUCK and second sometimes the pee leaks off the side onto the floor if the potty close to the edge of the pad. I have been toying with the idea of a litter box and wonder if anyone here uses one. I don't know if I would use litter or maybe just newspaper but I think that might prevent both my problems. I wonder if they would still get wet feet though. I also seen a product called UGO dog that looks interesting and wonder if anyone here has that. It holds newspaper or pee pads if you prefer and has a small grate that goes over the top so the urine goes through and they won't be stepping on it. That would solve the wet feet issue for sure but I wonder if the grate would be difficult to keep REALLY clean. I wouldn't want it to be all nasty inside the little squares with urine and poo, and I don't want to have to use a tooth brush to clean it either Ok, sorry for the longwindedness.

| Washable potty pads is the way to go. Then you can thoroughly clean them every day. You are right about the grid things, tried that, what a mess to clean. So much easier to just throw a pad in the washer (after flushing the solid stuff of course). The ones I sell are very absorbent and the pee soaks in right away. I have a whole box of rejected fabrics that are so cute, but didn't make the cut because they took too long. Anyway if you are interested here's a link to my current sale thread. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=107168 I got tired of the pee from the edges soaking underneath, leaking, the puppies tearing the paper up, etc. The washable ones are so much better. I definitely recommend them regardless of where you decide to get them.

| I have to agree, washable pads are the best way to go. They absorb 3 times better than the disposable ones so when they walk on it their feet won't get soaked which makes for a cleaner dog and less mess. I actually have a dog tent that I use that is "the potty tent". I put a big pad in there and they will go in there and go on the pad. When the pad needs changed I put a clean one done and stick the dirty ones in the washer. They wash up like new everytime. I had the same problem with them peeing off the side of the pad. And Scampers would poop just right off the pad. But since they have to go in the tent I no longer have any accidents to clean up from them missing the pad. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I would think at least two so that you can have one to use while you wash the other one. It is nicer, though if you can have 4 or 5 so you can wash a full load each time as you wouldn't wash anything else with the potty pads.

The grate is easy to rinse the pee off of, but it is the poo that gets stuck in the little squares that is a bear to clean. I tried that and decided it wasn't for me. I just take the used potty pads and fold them in fourths with the dirty side in and stack next to the washer until I am ready to wash. The smell stays inside. No stink. You could also put them in a garbage bag if you wanted, but I have found that this works for me.

| I like the idea of the washable pee pee pads as I have never heard of them. Although I buy Little Stinkers Wee Wee Pads and they are very thick and abosorbent and I do not have the issue of wet feet or urine running off the sides. For washable pee pee pads, does it smell after a day? I change wee wee pads every 2 days as she is holding in her urine longer than when she was younger. And how often do you wash it? Just curious to know, Thanx! Rebecca

It depends on how many yorkies you have using it. I have three yorkies for one pad and I usually change it every day, but I have been know to leave it for two. No they don't stink.

I wash it whenever it is dirty, usually once a day. But with only one yorkie you may be able to go every two to three days or longer before you have to wash it. If you let them get too dirty they won't use them. Of course I do pick up any poop and flush it whenever I see it.

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | We use newspaper (recycle ) in a larger bird cage tray bottom. Works for us - except when she gets too near the edge, and then of course I have to wipe down the tray and the floor beneath It's worth it to me, though, not to worry about her being outside.

| I have pee pads from Little Bit and I love em. I have 7 from Little Bit and 8 Pooch Pads, so 15 washable pee pads in total. I have 1 dog and I always have two pee pads down. One pee pad is in the bathroom where Bitsy is all day (gated hallway and bathroom) and one is in a little tent thing in the living room. The one in the bathroom gets changed every day and the one in the living room gets changed every second or third day because she doesn't use that one as often. The used ones are placed in a garbage bag in a lidded garbage can. I do a pee pad load once a week. I have never noticed a smell. I LOVE washable pee pads. I like the fact that I'm doing better for the environment, I'm saving money on not buying disposables AND Bitsy can pee and poop when she needs to instead of holding it so on the rare occasion when I come home late from work, I don't have to worry and feel bad. |
