| Cheeky Bags Update Well here we are after a long night. I have to tell you all Cheeky is not winning his heart yet. She kept him awake until 1AM when I finally went downstairs and brought her into my room. We had her in the kitchen cause she is not house trained and I did not want him to put his foot in anything this morning as that would not have adhered her to him in anyway. I called Yorkie World yesterday they are our local Yorkie Rescue group but not very confident about sending her off with them as while I was on the phone with the head rescuer I heard her dogs tearing into each other. She did however say I could use something called Fragaria in the dogs water and it would help to rid the teeth of all the build up. Has anyone heard of this? I am still holding out going to continue with the hope that he will cave. Also I have tried to get the vets to make some sort of arrangment as I only allow myself so much money each month for myself and if I am to keep her I have to use my money and not the money that is ours. There is a program here though for people on benefits and I am going to see if I can get a friend to register her with the program and get her teeth done that way. I know it is a bit dishonest but you pay them what you can afford and I will pay them what I would have paid my vet only as two payments instead of one so not too dishonest is it? |

| Hi, is there not a PDSA anywhere near you, i think they still offer free veterinary care dont they? I'm not sure if you have to prove 'hardship' or anything though. I think i'd try that first before trying the 'benefit system' one, i know theres a mass of benefit fraud going on anyway, but would be horrible if you ended up being done for fraud all for trying to help a stray pup. good luck with her, at least she found someone who'l make sure she gets a good home either way!

| got that off the PDSA website if it helps? PDSA PetAid hospitals provide a full range of medical and surgical services for sick and injured pets and are staffed by fully qualified veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses. There is a PDSA PetAid hospital in 46 towns and cities in Britain. Treatment is free of charge to those who cannot afford private veterinary fees and who are in receipt of Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit. However, because PDSA PetAid services are funded entirely by donations from the public, all owners are encouraged to make a contribution towards the cost of their pet's treatment. Each PDSA PetAid hospital has a catchment area that is defined by postcodes. Pet owners living outside these areas may be able to register with a private practice offering the PDSA PetAid service, or apply for a grant from the PDSA Special Request Scheme.

| It is the PDSA that I do not qualify for. As I cannot receive any benefits in this country due to being an American. My friend however receives benefits and is willing to take her to the vet... Still trying to ply my husband into letting me keep her first though. If nothing else we can get it done at the end of the month after we get paid provided he lets me keep her. Her barking for an hour and a half lastnight to be with us and not on her own in the kitchen only served to make him that much more stubborn. I pointed out that as soon as we placed her beside the bed she settled right down and not a sound until I got out of bed this morning but I will keep talking to him about it. One of my main points is she is old already not like she is going to be around another 13 or so years but in fact only a few especially if these lumps turn out to be cancer. Vet won't test them yet as she is still classified a stray NM what I wanted.... They even argued with me about testing her stool for worms. Ah well things will work out in the end I am sure. Until then I will deal with her breath of a thousand septic tanks and give her lots of cuddles. |

| Bless you and your big heart. Maybe with time he'll come around. My mom's husband said 'no dogs' when she wanted one and bought her stuffed ones as a joke. He relented when I asked him if I could give her one for mother's day and within a month she asked if they could have another, because HE was worried that little Rose needed a playmate. These two now go everywhere with him, the diner, the golf course, visiting the nursing home up the street...he is completely consumed. |

| Perhaps if he forces the issue and makes you give her up he will have seen how much you want one and will get you a puppy. I am assuming she is spayed and was at one point house broken. If she was once housebroken she will not be too hard to retrain. I know! Test her out and see if she knows any tricks. Tricks get to men. Get some treats and see if you can teach her to sit. I can't tell you how tickled I was when my first puppy sat for me. I had to show everyone I knew. Then I taught him down and had to show that to everyone too. See if she knows how to chase a ball or catch a frisbee. If she will shake hands, he can't help but notice. It's worth a shot. Sylvia PS Also if you know anyone who is a trainer and maybe able to refresh Cheeky's memory, it might be worth it to give at least one lesson.
