| I'm sure this has been talked about but.... How do you train with the bells? Cody was trained, he would whine when he needed to go out, well we got Gracie and she is pee pad trained, niether one tell me they have to go out! Same as most people's problem, they go out for awhile, come back in go on the floor or pee pad, don't get me wrong I'm glad she will go on the pad but good grief not when they were just out for 10 mins anyway I'm ready to try the bells, so how do i start?

| bells Ok... from what I know and read in books. In order to train them with the bells you have to ring it everytime you go out to potty (make sure they see you ring the bell) , and when your out there it's just buisness and back in. Otherwise they'll think it's just to get the door open...hahahaha...lol. Just remember to repeat when ever you open the door to potty "ring" and potty time. And make sure to hang it low enough so they can reach it. Hope this helps. Last edited by a_jgonzalez; 10-26-2007 at 02:43 PM. Reason: left something out. |

| bells for training Hi.....we have a 7 month old male yorkie that we trained with the bell....and he was totally house broke at the age of 6 months.....we hung the bell about 3" off the floor, it is attached to the door knob.....and every time he looked like he needed to go out I would take him to the door and put his leash on and just stand there holding the leash and keep repeating go potty....ring bell....go potty....and when at first he would only stand there I would reach out and ring the bell with my hand and say at the same time go potty.....he learned in a week that he had to ring the bell to go out ............when ever he would forget I would leash him and just stand there and wait, saying go potty, ....it might take a few minutes but he soon got the idea, they are so smart I'am constantly amazed at him, he has leaned to stay when I walk away and sit and come and stay down....when he goes out I keep him on his leash at all times, we go out he gets his business done and we come right back in.....he does have play time outside but only if we can supervise him at the time......hope this helps... |
