| Water in the crate Ok, so I've been posting questions all day. I am finally trying to commit to a training technique for housebreaking. Now, how do I give Spike water if he is in his crate (it's a 23in. plastic crate). When does he drink? He had free water when he used the xpen. Does he just get water with meals? Thanks again, Liz |

YT 500 Club Member | I have used a cup that fits on the door. It is kinda like what you put in a bird cage. It has little prongs that fit over the wire door. We use a wire cage so our dog can see out on all sides. It also allows for more air flow. Then I put the cup on the side. That way she cannot spill her water and has some while she is confined.

| are you putting him in his crate all day or just for the night?? if it is during the night.. no water... i've never crated Layla all day and am not a fan of it... so i'm not sure what to do if you are crating him all day.. he needs water but he would probably pee in his crate |

| If you are worried about making a mess use ice cubes instead of water. it takes longer to melt and not so much of a mess. I have also had my animals drink out of a large rabbit type water bottle. I got so tired of cleaning up water on the floor that I got a large water bottle and they used it!

| Sam is crated during the day when Im not home. I found two things at Petsmart for 5 bucks that are plastic and hook to the side of his crate. I put his water in there. Sam's crate is big tho, he has a bed area and potty area (he doesnt use it usually).

| I am also a fan of the hanging cage water bottle. It's there if they need it and they sell dog crate water bottles at Petsmart & Petco. or you can use a rabbit or guinea pig one. It works the best for my two when they are in there crate.
