Running Away?

My little boy never sits for me whenever I need to catch him. For example, he'll be playing and I'll ask him to sit because I have to go outside but he will continue to run around. There is no way to catch him except to outsmart him and lock him and myself in the bathroom where I then can pick him up. He is very good and trained to do tricks but he just loves his playtime. Is there any sort of way to have him sit down without my chasing him all day? BTW, he sits for my husband because my little dog respects him but he won't do that for me.

I have morgan trained to go to her kennel when i tell her to. I used to point at it and say kennel and have a treat in there when she got there. Then i used to give her another small peice of treat so that she was extra rewarded when she went in. Now when i have to leave her for work or even for a few minutes and i don't want her following me i just say "kennel" and point and she runs in there. nice and easy (btw her kennel is her ex-pen)

Oh, I understand. Otis will not come inside after pottying. I think he would love to be an outside dog. I have to go out and get him just about every time. I'll be keeping up on this post for suggestions. I've chased him around my car in the garage so many times when I try to leave for work and he wants to go with me.

when i was taking classes at petsmart the trainer made it VERY clear that "come" gets MANY MANY TREATS.. we started by having my mom hold Layla at the end of the hall and i was at the other end... you say ONCE .. COME.. and when he does.. HUGE PRAISE and MANY Treats... come gets more treats than sit because it can save his life and he always needs to know what it means... we are still in the process of getting it down and we ALWAYS carry treats so i can randomly call her to come.. she does and she gets treats... and unless it is a spontaneous, saving him from soemthing, he always eneds to get a treat when he comes... also when Layla comes she know immediately to sit... make that part of the command. Good luck and stick with it.. it is great when they get it down!

I've learned the ''stare-down tool'' from here on YT! It's been the only thing that works with ''catching'' Daisy.

It's very simple and apparently works for most yorkies. Basically, when you want her to come to you to pick her up and avoid the ''circle game'', you call her name [''Daisy, come here!''] and point to the floor in front of you. The key is to NOT break your stare. She might stare back at you so DONT lose your stare! Ask her again sternly, [DAISY, COME HERE!] and continue to point to the ground before you. She will give in and eventually sulk over to you/your finger.
