| I think my pup is eating her poop I think my pup is eating her poop. This is a new thing for her and I have heard its is common with puppies. The reason I think so is because when I put her in her bathroom to go on the newspaper and walk away, I come back and I can smell the poop but dont see the poop. So last night, when I got a wiff of the poop, but saw no poop, I tried to smell her breath. And yes, it smelled like her poop. Will someone please tell me this has happened to them so I won't feel like a freak! She has been with me for 5 weeks and just started this about 3 days ago. I read you could put hot sauce on it to discourage her from eating it but that seems mean! Any suggestions? |

| LOL! This is fairly common thing in puppies. I feel lucky that Mei Mei doesn't eat her poop. But my other two dogs (Pomeranian and Shih Tzu), both males, will eat their own and each others!! It is rather disgusting, but sometimes they will outgrow it and sometimes they won't. There are some products like Deter or Apple Bitter Spray you can use, but I havn't tried those as I am hoping my male dogs will outgrow it. I am sure you will get several more responses because like I said, it is pretty common. There has to be more poop eaters around! LOL!

| COPROPHAGY rears its ugly head !! That's the big word for pets who eat their poop....and you can find out a lot about it at this site: http://familyfun.go.com/parenting/le...petveteatpoop/ Higgins did it for a short while but has outgrown it. He'll still pick it up and MOVE it to another spot, though, preferably under my bed so I won't see it. |

| I now that some cases when people get mad at the dogs, scream or even hit them, they will start to eat their poopoo to hide so their human won't get mad at them Its sad but some people do act like that instead of showing the right way to do it...If an accidente happen in the wrong place, just clean up and ignore the dog, when they do in the right spot, praise him, play with him and grive treats..they can't resist. I think you should try staying with him untill he finishes doing his business.. |

| I'd suggest watching them when they need to poop, and shoo them away afterwards. Yoda ate his own poop as well before, I think we immediately sprayed it with Bitter Apple a few times, and he hasn't really tried to eat it since, though he likes to sniff it at times. |

| I had one poop eater Fudy will be a year on the 24th of this month and he has stopped. I feel lucky my Vet said some dogs never quick. I have had dogs all my life and he was the first. It seems like alot more dogs do it now, I wonder if dog food has changed and has something in it that draws them to it. Of that is the worst thing Rudy does, I will be lucky, he is a hand full.............Cindy |

| We are fortunate that Toto never has eaten poop, although our breeder warned us that some of them do that! She loves so much to kiss us on the mouth that Patrick and I made a vow to each other that if we ever saw her do it, we would tell the other and there would be no more Puppy Kisses on our mouth!!! When "Miss Prissy Paws" goes poop she can't get away from it fast enough! Perhaps it's because she runs to us for her treat? Also, we always know if some of it sticks to her fur because she will have a really sad expression on her face as if to say, "Could someone please wash this off me?" They are all so unique ... that's what makes them so much fun!!!

| I think I found out what it is! I traced back to see what I changed since it started happening..and it was two things. ONe was a new flavor nylabone that she had never had and two, a new treat, those begging strips. I stopped giving her the begging strips and she stopped wanting to eat her poop. i guess she was smallowing them whole before they could digest properly and then we wanted to eat it again...gross!! Thanks for your input. I feel less of a freak now! |

| Charlie ate his poop not so much anymore every now and then. I would clean his mouth out with soap and water on a rag he does not like it so I think it help he does not eat his poop anymore. I did not want him licking me after he ate his poop that is why I would clean his mouth. |

| Nita doesn´t eat her poop but both my dogs love cat-poop it is disgusting, after one walk they came back and the smell was so overwhelming that they were banned from sleeping in the bed-room and had to spend the night in the laundry-room. Nitas poop sometimes sticks to her hair, everytime that happens she freaks out starts yelping as loud as she can and runs to me to clean it off |

| Cat poop?!! OMG ... the problem with poop sticking to their fur and with their "skirt" getting wet when they pee pee was easy enough for our vet to resolve when she groomed Toto! She showed us how to "band" the long fur on her tail and both her little hips! It is sooo cute, especially when she is walking away! It is so much easier for us not having to wash her little rear almost daily!

| Jess loves cat poop too We have had to put our cats litter tray on top of our washing machine because Jess would dig the poop out, take it to her bed and eat it..or worst of all, stash it away for later! Many times Iv been sitting on the couch and the smell of cats poop (which is terribly strong) has wafted across my face She had hidden it between the cushions or in her blanket,it was awful! She would still do it if the tray was within her reach..its really disgusting! |
