| toby is doing excellent with his crate....... crate training is not all about potty training though, the crate is a place they are safe, it is their "nest", and it is a confined area so youre stuff doesnt get destroyed when youre not home... I tried the pee pad method, and toby didnt seem to grasp the idea that the pads are INSIDE the house but they ARE NOT the same thing..... so now i just boot him out on the balcony everyonce in a while and wait till he goes potty |

| Be very consistent even if your puppy is doing very well. Any inconsistency can set your potty training back. Keep your puppy in an small area until so when it has accident it would be easy to clean. Otherswise, have fun with your puppy. |

| x-pen If you don't like confining your dog to a small area (crate). You can try training your puppy in an x-pen. Just place his bed or towel in the pen along with a pee pad or newspaper. Aslo provide your puppy with some toys, this way he/she has something to do. With this method, you are keeping your puppy confined, but still giving him/her sufficient room to play. The only negative is that you will not be training your puppy to hold theier bladder. If you plan on transitioning your puppy to outdoor potty training, this may not be the best idea. Otherwise, I find it works quite well. Best of luck with what ever method you choose. |

| I was thinking of having a crate and an x-pen... I could have the crate for him during the day (door open) but also have a pee pad and plenty of toys in his pen... |

| Hey. Well, I eventually want her to no to go outside. But just so that she'd not soaking up my carpet for rite now is all I'm worried with. SO what are some good methods for outside training?

| Stomper is doing very well with the potty training. He is in a crate at night. In the morning, I take him straight outside to go potty. When Stomper was 8 weeks old, I sometimes carried him out because they can't always hold it. After he plays or eats, I typically take him outside after 15 minutes for him to do his business. We both work full-time and he is left inside during the day. He does his business on the pads when we are gone. Rarely makes mistakes and he has access to 2 large rooms. You basically need to follow them around like mad when they are puppies! Make sure to always say the same thing "go potty" or "do your business" and reward your baby for doing it in the right place (either with a treat or saying good boy/girl). Eventually, your baby will go potty on command. Stomper is 19 weeks old and is almost at 100%. What is interesting...about 3 weeks ago he was doing so well and then starting making mistakes again. It is fusterating, but I had to start over from scratch with the training. Lots and lots of patience!!!! Good luck!

| Eventually you'll know when they need to go potty (they sniff). Call your baby to the right place to go. Give you baby a treat when he/she goes in the right place. If he/she makes a mistake, say NO and place him or her on the pad. That is what I did and it worked out fine.
