Potty Training Issues! Hi everyone- new to this & my first post ever- so i hope this gets to the right place! =) I joined awhile back when I first got our baby & got a lot of helpful info just from reading!! Hoping for some direct insight now-maybe some fellow pet parents have had similar situation etc...so here it goes!
Marcello is just about 1 & 1/2 now, & a "micro" so he is about 3 lbs & won't get much bigger. We were living in NY when we got him (March '14) at about 9 wks old & is in great health. About 6 months later, we had to unexpectedly relocate to California. While in NY, Marcello was in a kids 'play pen' gate area with his crate/bed in one corner, & his wee-wee pad across the other side. This gave him a pretty good sized area to sleep/play/potty/eat while not getting into too much trouble as he was soooo teeny, especially when we were at work. He was very good about using the pad back then.
Since we relocated to our new place (rugs, ugh) he has accidents quite often. In the beginning we figured/were told bc of new environment he would be confused, especially that we didn't have place for the gate, completely understandable. We took him for some classes-he learned some other stuff, but they dint really handle the bathroom training issue much. I did try taking him outside on a schedule 3x's a day, but he's so little he get tired quickly, super hot here & he didn't really understand -only going by "accident' once or twice. Also, don't want him to hold it if we aren't home either as again, he's so small.
We did try using a gated area in the kitchen - so on schedule first thing in the AM or before bed if i put him in there he goes like a good boy & understands! =) But throughout the day if he is loose, he has accidents & always insists on doing # 2 under our dining room table in the same spot lol I have hate leaving him in kitchen area when we aren't home bc he does get some anxiety has thrown up before & when he is loose he just likes to lay on the couch or play & isn't as upset when we get home. SO -reaching out for some help-love my baby so much & want to figure this out...some have advised us to 'put his nose' to the spot & say 'no, bad boy' but i don't think he even understands.....& then he shakes afterwards when he knows he did something he shouldn't have but doesn't stop him from another accident either. I have tried treats after he goes & praising him too... thanks =) |
