| Won't walk when he's on his flexi-leash and harness. I've got my little Toby who is 13 weeks old now and he's gotten used to just a regular leash and collar. Two days ago, I finally bought his first harness and a flexi-leash. I tried his flexi-leash and he won't move or anything. He'd just stare at me. I try taking off the flexi-leash and he's back to his normal playful self. I don't know what to do!!:confu sed: |

| Dont ever use a collar on a small breed dog they have sensitive tracheas and it can cause collapsed trachea. Just use a regular leash untill he gets used to the flexi he is really young yet anyway so if he will walk with a regular leash he is doing good

| By flexi leash, do you mean a retractable leash? If so, I don't really care for those. I feel safer with a regular leash that has no give and that I can wrap the end around my wrist and hold the leash with my hand. I'm sure I'm way too protective, but I like the strength and reliability of a regular nylon or leather leash..just in case something happens and I have to pull Mandie up quickly. I know it won't break or give. To train on any leash, though..just do little sessions inside with it and use little training treats to entice your pup to move towards you. Teach "come" or "heel" and entice with a treat to walk to you. Little sessions over several days inside will help when outside.

If you lock it onto the length of his 'normal' lead, will he walk with it on? No shortening and lengthening yet....I think it's the sharp, zippy sound of it retracting that they don't like at first. I also made sure I got him the 'all tape' flexi....the one's that are mostly cord are far too easy to snap or chew through He will walk with it eventually, and he'll love the extra freedom that it brings. Good luck! Sally + Harry x | |
