| Where is your Yorkie when you are not home? Hi, i'm wondering where others set their pups up when they are out running errands, at work, etc. Do you let them roam the whole house? A special designated room? A gate up in teh kitchen? While my 4 month old is doing super good with wee wee training I am still not confident in letting her run the house when i am at work. She does do #2 on her pads but how will i ever know if she made an error with #1 on the rug if i am not there to see her. so for last 3 weeks she has been in crate training mode, but now today i started her in the open kitchen with gate up. Any thoughts or tips to share? |

| I have a large two story home, and my girls have all the rooms except the bedrooms and the living room because of carpet and rugs. They haven't peed on any yet, but I am not going to take chances.

Yes the rugs are tough, unless you see it happening or have a very light rug you will come home and not know if they had a mistake or accident. For now I think the kitchen is okay until she is fully trained. She has moved up from crate to kitchen. When we are home she is out and about | |

| My 4 have never been crated, they are confined to the kitchen/sunroom with gates and the laundry room where their potty pads are. The area is huge. They are not allowed in other parts of the house (unless they escape) because there are too many things they could get into.

| ZoE will be 9 months old this Friday and has had the run of the house since she was 4 months old. Thankfully, she's completely potty trained. The only rooms I close the doors to are the guest bedroom and the bathroom. I started her off in a playpen as a pup and that didn't last long because she quickly figured out how to scale the walls of it. I was worried about her getting hurt falling over the top, so that went in the basement storage room within days of getting it. Then I used a tall gate to confine her to just the kitchen, dining room & living room areas, which are all open to each other, and put her potty pads infront of the gate. Once I was sure she was potty trained, the gate came down and the potty pads were moved just a few feet into the part of the hallway that deadends at the stacked washer/dryer laundry closet, which is right across from the bathroom so its convenient to flush her poops! It works great for us .

| thanks for the input. right now she is doing great with training so i dont put her in crate during day anymore. she is getting better about telilng me when she needs to go, gets fussy and i take her to pad and say my commands. she evenuses the commands outside now too but during day i just cant have her run wild in the house unsupervised, so she is in the kitchen today with gate up. i will be interested to see what happens when i get home. i will say the few times i have run to the store and let her have her way on teh first floor of our place, she hasnt done #2 anywhere but her pad. she has been good. | My little guy is 15 months old and up til he was a year he was crated when we were gone. Now we just leave him in the house and we haven't had any problems. The longest we have been gone tho is probably 5 hours. I make sure I take him out before we go away and right when we get home. He is usually ready to go out then. He does really well at night too, holds it all night. |

| My consern isnt Mina pottying in the house, however she will eat and chew on ANYTHING and could choke or eat something that I am not aware of and end up with a blockage that could make her ill or cause her death. A 4month old is still teething. Mina is 8months old and is still tasting everything that she comes to. Electrical cords behind furniture is a particular danger. The "drop it" command she has down pat,,mostly because she hears it soooo much. When I am not home she is in her crate, the other dogs are in a large expen. The big guy that is 15yrs old has the run of the house. |

| I have a kitchen/den arrangement, so I gate that area off when I leave. Copper is so little, the whole house would be overwhelming I think. Plus, I don't want him pottying in the rest of the house. Usually he holds it until I get back. I'm not gone for more than about 4 hours. If I have to be away for the day, my husband comes home at lunch and lets him out and plays with him.

| Hello everyone! For me it's not the pottying but, again, the chewing! Harry chewed through Andy's phone charger cable yesterday - and I was only filling the kettle! And yet he goes for months without chewing a thing? Think he likes little dangly things! Sally + Harry x |

| When Kaos was a puppy he was crated and/ or gated in the kitchen depending how long I was going to be gone. Now he gets full run of my bedroom while I'm not home. When he was about 10weeks he figured out how to unlock his crate, and one day he took everything he could find out of every draw, trash bin, and laundry basket and threw it all over the place. I just wish I had taken a picture. I was in shock that my 2lb teddy bear could cause such destruction. He's never touched any of my stuff since then. Unless he wants some attention then he will PURPOSLY find something that is mine and throw it around in the air to get mommy's attention. Like saying, "look mommy, look how bad I am being"

| Jax has free roam of the house! Well at my dads house we block the dogs off from the upstairs because of the cats but they get the whole first floor.
