Play pen \I need your opinion Hi I'm getting my baby tomorrow but I didn't decided yet on play pen vs crate. I visited today Pets Mart to see, feel and to ask question but it didn't help me to make a final decision. Then I came back home and did internet search again. I found one model of play pen and would like to hear your opinion on it. For me it looks good. I think there will be enough place to play, it give good observation ability. Also it's not as expencive as I saw in the store. What do you think ? This is a link; Leopard Skin Pet Tent Exercise Pen Playpen Dog Crate - eBay (item 250367458377 end time Feb-09-09 17:02:21 PST) |
I'm getting my baby tomorrow, too! I looked at the play pen and my first concern would be a puppy chewing his/her way out of it. When they are teething, they will gnaw on ANYTHING, and can chew right through soft stuff life this. |
I use a regular baby play pen I got at a yard sale for my puppies. |
On the upside, I like the idea that it has a top and looks like it would collapse easily if you wanted to take it with you. My concern would be that it has a fabric floor. How you ever be able to keep that clean? So now I am getting a visual of crawling through the little zipper door to clean the floor. :p Maybe someone will reply that actually has this playpen and give a real experience opinion. ;) BTW~hello neighbor, I'm from IL too!:animal36 |
It has removable seiling wich give good way to observation and cleaning as well. One of my concideration for this pen is a bottom that can protect our floor from exidents when we are not at home. But for me isn't less important the seafty and comfort of my baby. So I'm waiting for more opinion. It's happen today the new furbaby will come in !!! |
I had purchased a all pink one. . It was the smaller one. I was pretty curious about it being safe for my baby too! There was a thread earlier this week about it. Here is the link. . . . . http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...my-babies.html The person that post the thread seem to really like the play pen so I'm guessing it is safe and usueful. They helped me answer some questions that I had about the play pen. Hope this helps a little :) |
play pen/crate We use a crate with a heated bed in it.....and took the door off of it....so it opens directly into a pet play pen that doesn't have a bottom to it. We paper trained our Maddie...so I have a tray in the play pen w/newspaper...her bowls for water/food in one corner....and her toys in another. I didn't want her to feel all cramped up, so this is why we decided on this set up. I am home all day but I have a child care business in my home....so I can't let Maddie have the run of the house. I just get her out several times a day and play/snuggle her =] She adapted very well to this. We can leave on the weekends for several hours at a time, as she has everything she needs right there. (not that I like to leave her, but sometimes I don't have control over that) She snuggles up in a little ball in her little bed and feels very safe from all of the kids! =] |
It's looks like you guys like it. I think I'm going to order one. I'm just wondering if pupp can somehow to chew it. |

I used a regular baby play pen too when Daisy was a puppy. I put her bed on one side of it and put her puppy pad on the other side. This helped with her potty training too. She stayed in it until she was about 6 months old and then she somehow decided how to jump out of it. I came home from work one day and she running through the house!!! |
While Kayla was little I kept her in a regular crate at night and when we were no at home. I bought a play pen later and she loves to take naps in it and it was good to have something to put her in for a while when she was little. They say never leave them in a play pen because they could get hurt espically if they were left in it while you were gone for a little while. I just felt better leaving her in her crate. The play pens do come in handy though. Even my schnauzers like to take naps in it. |

I think it's great, as far as a cloth bottom, I know Jo-anne's sell extra wide vinyl that could be used to cover the floor and pee pads placed over this. |
I bought the pink playpen & really love it. I tested the bottom floor for you & it is water-proof,:D so using puppy pads would work great in there. Bella also has a playpen that we used when she was younger. Even during her chewing phase, which she seems to have outgrown....she never bothered trying to chew the playpen although she did learn to crawl/jump out. That's why I really love the playpen with zippered top, plus its so great to take on trips. |
I also have an outdoor kids playpen that snaps together and have attached crate to. both my guys stay in there all day while am at work. I have a litterpan and and 2 beds...still alot of room to play if need be. it doesn't have a floor so i put an impervious sheet down just in case:). |
Hi , I just won a bit on ebay of this crate. I'm just can't wait to it to be delivered. My baby will come in a few hours, I'm nervus. |
