What steps did you take to train your puppy to use the peepads?

Hi ...I am sure you will get lots of tips on this.
For us...I got KiKi at 13 weeks and she was 1 lb...I would put her on the pee pad and say "go potty"...at first I did it every 10 minutes....and when she did pee...I would get excited and praise and give a treat right away.
She had an x-pen set up in her own room and I had her bed in a crate attached to her x-pen..with the floor covered in pee pads...each week I would remove 1-2 pee pads..til she learned to just go on the one...she is totally trained now and no accidents!!

Here is my set up right now.

Bailey is 8 weeks and 3 days old. I keep him in a med crate. In the crate is a bathroom mat with a small box with litter in the back, and some food in a small bowl up front, and a water bottle attached to the door.

He has had no accidents in the crate and uses the litter. BUT.... when we have him out to to play he will sometime use the litter and sometimes wont, I bought peepads today since that is what seems everyone on here uses although today he just tried to chew on them.

During the day when I am at school (college) hubby is at work and kids are in school we bought a baby gate and keep him in our bathroom with lots of toys so he isnt cooped up in the crate during the day. and in the bathroom today (first day we have put him in the bathroom) he used the litter as well.

I just wonder if I should keep using the litter or switch him to peepads?

Also, you mentioned an X pen... what is that?

i have had really good luck with the litter box training i used the litter called yesterdays news ,the only thing is that it can tracks out on there little feet.so now i just use the pee pads i get them from the drug store as they are much cheaper than the dog ones ,i put the pee pad inside a small rubber maid container with the end cut out as 2 of mine are pretty small and at frist i would pen them in an area until i had them using it and no we have no accidents and it is so good if you are away because i just put a lid on it and away we go then they allways no where to do there business.gope its of some help

morgan, can u maybe post a picture of the rubbermaid potty thing that
you use? i think i want to do that.. i use the wee pad holders now.
