Puppy shredding pee pads I have a 5 mos. old yorkie who has been pretty good about going on pee pads. Whenever I leave the house, or cannot attend to her, I put her in an exercise pen where she has a bed, food & water & pee pads. She has begun ripping up the pee pads & destroying her area when I leave her in there. What shoud I do? I cannot leave her out of her pen all the time. Should I crate her instead...She has a crate, but cries when I put her in there. I wish she would just pee outside, but I am in colorado, so it doesn't work well to take her out in the winter. It seems she is developing separation anxiety...Any advice?

Have you tried pee pad holders? Ive seen them at petco or petsmart. One of my friends had the same problem and she said the holders worked great. As far as the separation anxiety goes, I hear you... My yorkie has the same problem and we working on it. Good Luck!!!

Gucci is a week shy of 5 months and he too has this problem. He shreds his puppy pads, throws his pillow buddy and toys EVERYWHERE within 10-15 minutes after I leave ( I have tested and came back to check lol ) .. so I KNOW It is seperation anxiety. He gets VERY anxious when he sees me getting dressed because he knows I am leaving. He will run around by me and follow me. It makes me so sad for him. I am going to try and start leaving on a movie when I leave and see if that helps him at all, as it may distract him or keep him thinking I am in another room and help with his anxiety. Maybe you can try that, I know you can also try leaving for a few minutes at a time to get him used to it and once your up to 30 minutes you can increase the time to more. You also want to not make a BIG DEAL out of leaving and not greet him right away when you get home .. just wait maybe 15 minutes or so.

RE: Shredding pee pads Samson did that too. He is in a pen also (about 7 hours). When I would get home from work, cotton lint was everywhere! He had a blast! I have switched to paper and so far it's working. He seems to only go once while I am at work so it's not to much of a mess to clean up. I just pick up the paper and wipe the tile with lysol. Make sure he has plenty of other things to play with too. Good luck!

So, I went to petsmart today and bought the holder for the pee pads. She went on it no problem. Then, I took her out of the xpen to play. She played w/me & my daughter for a long time, then started jumping up & biting my daughter for no reason. I gave her a stern "no" and nonchalantly picked her up & put her in the xpen. I went back 10 min later to let her out, and she had pulled the pee pad out of the holder & shredded it! What an attitude she has! She is not a clingy dog around the house, so I think maybe it is not seperation anxiety..she is just protesting! I suppose the washable pads are my next option, but I hate all of this money I am spending for nothing. She also doesn't like any of the treats I have given her so far. I've tried chocolate dog chips, soft little chicken dog treats, peanut butter (she hates that!), cheese chips. I have some best buddy treats on the way (ordered online) but I am doubtful she will eat those. My son spilled some cheerios on the ground & she ate those right up! Would those be OK? I need some reward treat to train this little girl! She seems to eat only very small pieces. She is 3 pounds.

| We have the same problem with Maximus. When he gets bored, he likes to chew up his pee pads too. I'm waiting for the huge box of disposables to be used, then I'm switching to washables. (sigh) He also likes to eat the wallpaper, but that's a WHOLE other post. Thinking about checking in to an x-pen, playpen, whatever for times he is at home by himself.

My Yorkie doesn't have a problem with the pee pads but I'm assuming they shred what they can. I left and let Little Boy run around the house thinking I'll only be gone a short time. I came back and he had shredded the brand new carpet in the entryway to my bedroom. If I don't keep a very close eye on him he tries to go back there when he's bored and continue with his shredding party.
