| I think its just something you have to learn to accept... Finnigan hasn't had any accidents in 4-5 months and last night... Bam he poos on the floor outta no where! Arg. All I can say is keep up with the training at least for me the accidents have gotten further and further apart!

He is only 10 month old and yorkies are notorious for training issues. Get a good cleaner for urine stains to get rid of the smell this will help a lot with him going back to the same spot. If you want him to be in a large area get an xpen and that way you can keep him contained and also put down a pee pad. He has a tiny little bladder and needs to go out often. When you take him out don't let him play or sniff around too long. It should be potty time not look at the birds, chase the squirrels, sniff the ground time. Keep him out for only a few minutes. He is 10 months old and is still a baby. As soon as he pottys praise, treat and back into the house. If he doesn't potty he need to be put into his xpen or crate. Wait 45 minutes and back outside he goes until he goes. If he potties this time he can stay out and have free time but NOT out of your sit. Maybe 20 minutes of play and fun, then back into the crate. When he becomes more consistent that is when you can leave him out longer and longer.

| I find many people think their dog is trained, but really it is them that is trained to take the dog out at certain times of the day. Accidents occur when the dog drank extra water after playing etc and you don't know they need to go out. For us Punkin lets us know when she has to go out. That way we can forget about it until she comes and tells us. It was a little frustrating trying to get to that point though. Nothing like mopping up pee etc to make a fur mommy aggravated. Consistency helps and for us making a huge fuss (praise) over Punkin everytime she peed and pooped outside worked really well. We tell her she is a great girl and we are proud of her in a higher pitched voice so that that she knows we are talking to her. She is 3 1/2 now and we still praise her. Punkin makes a little whine noise when she needs to go out, but I know people who use a bell at the door for their dog to signal they need potty. Keep working at it and it will happen for you and your little guy. |
