| What age did you stop using crate at night? I'm just curious...for those who crate trained their puppy at night at what age did you stop using it? Or do any of you with older dogs still use it? |

| Mine still sleep in their crates! They have come to love them!! When we walk upstairs at night to go to bed they automatically go into their crates!! Oliver is 2 and Brooklyn is 10 mos.

| What age did you stop using crate at night? I am still crating my 11 month old puppy Bella. I could not trust her to be free in the house at night, as she will eat or chew anything she finds, if I am not keeping a close eye on her. Eventually she will sleep in my bed with me when she matures. |

| Do you have their crates in your room and do you still close them at night or leave them open? Thanks for your reply! |

No Longer a Member | I also crate train Chloe until this week. She has been sleeping with us for 4 nights. When I leave to go somewhere, I put her in her crate. I think with Chloe a little is good at a time. I will try taking the crate away maybe in a month or two. She just turned 1 on 11/15/08. We have only owned her for 6 months and she was not potty trained. She has had to learn a lot in 6 months. |

| Zoe wasn't crated until we got Peppee. I felt sorry for him because he would just cry all night. I bought a bigger crate and they both go in it...now I need to buy a bigger one that all three can fit a little better. They go into their "house" whenever we leave the house and at night.

| I stopped using her crate about a month or two after I got her. So she was 3-4months. She would always whine, bark, scratch at 4-5am because she wanted to get up and play... she wouldn't go potty. She wanted to hang out with my cats. So I decided to let her sleep with me in bed. Now she sleeps through the whole night, sometimes even longer than I do! Little brat.

| I've never crated a dog, but they do have their own bed. We tried sleeping with Zada and Azrael before we got Razael but Azrael snores LOUDLY, and then when we got Razael, Zada was so traumatized she got diarrhea and you can imagine what she did in our bed. That was it for us. I think it's best they have their own bed anyway.

| Keoki was crate trained when I would leave the house but has always slept with me ( except for the first week I got him) and the crate training lasted a year until he learned how to unlock the crate from the inside out!!!! My little stinker!!!! So that ended that!!! |

| Chloe (she's 8 mo. old )sleeps in her playpen at night. I had her in a small crate at first but she whined and hated it . We decided not to crate train her because she uses potty pads and since we were not taking her out every couple hours to pee , we decided a playpen would hold everything and still make her feel secure. In her playyard she has her bed and potty pad and snuggle toys , so she doesn't whine (most of the time ) . Our other dog Sydney ( 3 yrs. old ) was crate trained , and she still sleeps in her crate at night. We have considered letting the dogs sleep with us or our kids ( well the big dog sleeping with the kids and Chloe with us )But both dogs seem fine with their sleeping arrangements , so we just leave it as is.

| Abbey stopped sleeping in her crate when she was about 7 months old. I kept her in her crate at night when I first got her bc she was not trained and peed in my bed the first night I got her. As soon as she was potty trained and could sleep through the night, she began sleeping with me. She now sleeps with me every night and we cuddle. And she makes sure to wake me up in the morning and tell me she needs to go out. We've worked out a routine.

| I think it is better to have them crate trained. My Sassy was crate trained until I went on vacation and had to have two of my sister in laws here to "babysit". I left strict instructions for them to crate her at bedtime and when they went out. Sassy never minded her crate before that, in fact she would go in without me even asking her to. Evidently something changed because when I got back she absolutely would not sleep in it anymore! She barked and whined til I finally let her sleep with me so I could get some sleep. Now I am looking for a new crate to fit on my night table and re-introduce her to it. I wouldnt worry about it except when we had a tornado warning I had ahard time getting and keeping them in the crate for safety reasons. And in case of an emergency if they need to be crated then they wont stress it so much! If yours are already crate trained then do yourself AND them a favor and keep it that way.
