| My puppy is ten months old. He sleeps on his doggie mat, next to my computer chair, or on my bed every night. . I believe in crate training dogs until they learn the house rules. In addition, I use crates to help my dogs adjust to being confined, because groomers and veterinarians use creates. He slept in his crate until the age of nine months. Before nine months, I could not trust him. He would tear paper up, pee on the carpet, and chew on my rug. I only use the crate when I leave the house for long periods. I am starting to see the light out of the end of tunnel. I have to work on socializing him and accustoming him to loud sounds. He tries hard to be a good dog. I can teach him many things by cheering for him and singing to him (a dog that loves my singing ). Just like children, every dog is different. My Shih Tzu was fully trained at nine months compared to my Yorkie, but he will get there. Last edited by Lovely05; 12-02-2008 at 11:32 PM. |

| When I got Twinkle her breeder had already started crate training so it was an environment she was already familiar with. Her crate is in the kitchen because its the warmest room in our house and at night when I take her outside for her last potty she comes back in and goes straight to her crate and I shut the door. At 6am I let her out to potty and leave the crate open for the rest of the day. She wil go into the crate quite alot during the day to sleep, or sometimes take a toy in there to chew I'm going to continue with this because it's worked out well for us xxx xxx

| All of mine have their own crates with their beds inside. They sleep in them at night and when i leave the house. Yes i do close them in at night and when i leave the house for their own safety. My yorkies has free roam of the house. They only use crates for sleeping and when im away or when my grandchildren are here...better safe than sorry.

| Wrigley and Camden still sleep in their crates at night and love them! We had pads and bumper pads made, plus a custom cover and they have their own little palace!

I do still depend on the crate often but he still pees in his crate. He did last night, but that was my fault. I gave him too much water before we went to bed and then I didn't wake up in time to let him out.

| I never have crated, I use either an xpen, or right now, am using a big cage with her bed, water and pee pad in it, and she will be in that until she's housebroken, and out of the chewing stage, then will be able to sleep in the family room at night with the other 3 dogs. It's more for her safety than anything else |

my beagle learned to do the same thing!! We bought her a new kennel and she hasnt learned how to "open" that one.. yet. All my dogs except for my little poodle sleep in crates, my poodle did too for a while but my hubby kept insisting that she sleep in the bed with us . My 2 older dogs have to sleep in thier crates cause for some reason when they are left out they use my house as their personal potty even though both of them have been trained for years. All I say is "kennel" and they go running to thier little homes. My newest pup isnt completely house trained and to small to put in the bed with us so he is crated and is right next to my bed so I can hear him if he needs to potty. He will probably stay crated at night even he is older, sleeping with a constantly moving around hubby, a 4 pound dog that weighs as much as a german shepard does when she is sleeping and 2 cats is enough in the bed.

| I used the crate only until Buddy was completely house broken at age 5 1/2 mo. Then he slept in his bed next to mine but I would wake up in the morning and find him next to me so that is where he sleeps now. I never used the crate for anything else. |

| Canyon always slept in his crate at night which is on my bed right next to me. In the last 2 weeks, we have given up the crate and he snuggles with me all night. |

| 4 months old I stopped using it! Mine don't like to get up at night for nothing. I am a mom who has to get them up and take them out in the morning. They will stay all warm and toasty in bed all day if I let them! haha And they don't pee the bed at all.

| Hey. Walker is 4 months old and crate trained. He "kennels up" when told and spends alot of his time during the day lounging in it and chewing stuff The door comes off ours so that he can't accidentally shut himself out while playing. At night its next to the bed and closed. He does fine. When my husband works overnight I'll occasionally let him sleep with me. It's like a treat. He will probably remain crate trained when we're gone for short periods of time or sleeping since when we return to the states, he will need to be in the cargo area in a crate and i want him to feel 100% safe in there. I think its a pretty personal decision though and what works for some doesn't work for others.

| They sleep with me once they learn not to potty on my king size bed. LOL Katy Lou (7 mo.) has slept with me since 5 months old. Sophie (4 mo. ) still sleeps in her kennel/crate next to my bed. I love sleeping with my dogs. |

Therapy Dog Donating Member | Izzy will be two on 12/29 and she still uses her crate but not for sleeping at night because that girl is in our bed. But she uses it as her safe place to hang out when she can't crawl into our laps..lol. or when she just wants to rest and take a break she will sleep in it. I always have it open with her comfy bed and water bowl. Also if I'm going away for just an hour or two she goes in there. She is never left free in the house..not with those crazy cats of ours.
