| My yorkie is an alarm clock! Romeo wakes up when the sun rises. We go for a very late walk before we go to bed. He demands that I get up and take him out @ the crack of dawn. He barely lets out a drip of pee pee. I know he doesn't really have an urge to go potty. He developed this bad habit and it's killing me. I work very late and getting up this early is like the middle of the night for me. He won't leave me alone until I take him out. I nearly fell down my stairs one morning. Any suggestions? Please help!

| I have an alarm clock too...It goes off between 5:03 and 5:18am....However, I need to be up at that time, so I'm grateful that Izzie hits me in the face...I also have Harlee who tells me when to go to bed !!! Who's in control I say !!! Not me...

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Well, actually I have a built in alarm clock inside of me that does not allow me to sleep past 5:30-6am EVERY morning. BUT......... We used to have all four of our yorkies sleeping in bed with us. I finally decided that was a bit much, and thankfully it was no problem getting them adjusted to sleeping in their own beds on the floor in our room. Only Lexie (a bigger yorkie) is able to jump up on the bed, so she gets away with sleeping with us. But, every morning without fail, at 4:30 am, I am awakened by one or more of the other three at the side of the bed wanting up. Every morning....the same time!!!! How do they know???? Since we get up during the week for work at 5:15am, I do let them up on the bed for those last 45 minutes. Once they are up there, they find their spot & go right back to sleep.

Abby and Daisy wake up every morning at 6:30 without fail. One or both of them will lick my face until I'm up! I'm not sure how you can break your baby from getting up at the crack of dawn. Have you tried letting him sleep in his crate? Is that an option? Or maybe using black out shades, so that he doesn't know the sun is coming up?

| Maximus wakes me up every morning too! Every now and then he wakes up super early like 4 am or 5 am and is ready to play and be up. I have a baby gate in the kitchen where he has his bed, toy box, and food, and I just get up and put him in there and go back to bed until my real alarm clock goes off at 5:45. Sometimes, he will fuss for a little bit but after a while you can hear him in there playing with his toys.

I Love My Babies Donating Member | I feel for you. Little Dexter gets me up every morning between 3 and 3:15.. to go out potty, TJ gets up with him.. they go out potty and back to bed until 5 -5:30.. Then, I might as well get up.. because they won't stop until I do. Now Sandy is different.. she likes to sleep late. The boys aren't happy until she gets up too. She would gladly stay under the covers sleeping until 7 when my husband gets home..

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Mine also have alarm clocks. SInce Maya has had Cushing's disease (almost 2 years) she wakes me up at 1:30am and 3:30 am. I don't go to bed until 12 so I am constantly being woken up. I let Maya out at 1:30 then feed all 4 when they wake me up at 3:30am then I go back to sleep for a few hours. I am so tired all the time. Yesterday my 89 year old Dad says to me "Your eyes are sunken in like mine" I'm like that's great!! I may ask my vet for something to help Maya sleep. She really only wants toget up to eat all the time due to the Cushing's.

Senior Yorkie Talker | You know, my mom's pomeranian does this also. She cant seem to break her habit but she has been able to "control it". She takes her water and food away at 9pm and takes her out for a last potty break. This hasnt completely stopped her from waking my mom up at 3am-6am every morning but it has brought it down to maybe 2-3 times a week. She has tried putting the potty pads but she refuses to use it! So maybe taking him for a late night potty break and taking his food and water away might help some! Good Luck =]

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | thank god mine doesn't do this. i started ignoring her whines as soon as i knew she was old enough to hold it. Now she won't bug me until she knows i'm awake. the only thing i can tell you is to do everything in your power to ignore him. get some ear plugs, make him sleep in another room for a little while.

| I guess I lucked out with Winston, he'll sleep in as long as we do. I do always take him out to potty right before bed...he sleeps thru the night...sometimes 10 hours...without the need to go outside. Now if only I could go so long without going potty...LOL!!!

| Do not feel bad. I do not get to sleep past 8:30 in the morning. Every morning, Jack is sitting next to me, looking at me like, "Hello? Hello in there? Can you please get up and take me out?" And if he isn't up then we both wake up the alarm. It's rather funny. I am glad I am getting up early with him. I hated that I slept until noon or one everyday. There was one day that he absolutely would not settle down at like 6am. I was upset that I had to get up 2 hours early to take him out but I did. I ended up tripping on flat cement. Needless to say, I took off quite a bit of skin on my foot, shin, and knee. After that, he learned to sleep those last 2 hours. I'm not really sure how to get the habit broke since I am not trying to break his. I would say, lengthen the time little by little every day before you get up. They will eventually figure out what days are work days and which are weekend days. Good luck.
