Breakthrough with Stairs! Wall-E just had a breakthrough with stairs this morning! I live in a tri-level townhome, Wall-E could only run up the stairs but he would never go down them. I would have to carry him down the next level whenever we went downstairs. My husband and I have been trying to train him for weeks now to walk down the stairs but usually Wall-E will just bark at us and storm off in frustration!!!! hee hee... this weekend we finally got him to go down five stairs in a row- major breakthough. BUT this morning he saw me walk down the stairs and he barked at me to carry him down too... I just ignored him, walked away, and then when I went to check on him a few minutes later, he was halfway down the stairs!!! And then I ran to get a treat for him and as soon as he saw the treat, he ran down the bottom half of the stairs!!!! I'm soooo happy I love that he is sooo smart and finally is able to walk up and down our stairs now! Just wanted to share this bit of good news with everyone!

Going down stairs If your stairs are like ours there are railings which if are far enough apart your baby might be tempted to jump through so please put sometype of fabric along the rails to stop this. Thanks

Wall-E is in his pen when we're not home but luckily the railings are close enough together that he can only poke his head through; his shoulders and body are too broad to fit through the railings too. But, I will actually pay more attention to that when I'm home, to make sure that since he's more confident with the stairs, he doesn't become reckless around the stairs... so thanks for the warning. I'll keep a closer eye on him for the meantime.

Please be extra careful with your puppy on the stairs especially if they are hardwood and also make sure his nails are always well trimmed. My Diddy slipped on mine coming down, rolled all the way down and fractured his elbow. He is okay now but very scared to go up and come down now. He will not attempt to come down and has only tried going up once since then. This happened 3 months ago.
