How do you train your puppy to stay in the yard? Lately she's been running wild and i can't catch her to bring her in. she doesn't come when i say and it's driving me insane. i feel like now i have to put her on a leash just to go to the bathroom!

I have the same problem. We have a big yard and it would be to expensive to fence in the whole thing. I actually made a 50ft leach for her, out of washline twine. She loves it. She can run very far. Now Im not worried about her running on the road. I would really like to be able to let her off of the leash, but it's to risky. She runs fast and I can not catch her.

I don't even live on a busy street..we're in the country. She just chases the cat into the woods and we almost didn't get her out the last time! Crazy pup!

I live in a rental so I can't build a fence (although one is SLOWLY being built right now!) but usually if we're just hanging out in the yard, I have put a metal stake in the middle of the yard with about a 20' tie-out, I just clip that onto her harness and she can wander all around the yard without me following her, but she can't get out of my eyesight. And then of course, she's always tied to something if I need to get to her.

We live out in the country too and is to big to fence. I was real nervous about this in the beginning - but both my hubby and daughter insisted on letting Bailey go potty with no leash. Bailey soon learned the property lines (due to calling 'come' whenever she got close). We have two ponds and walk the property without a leash every day for exercise.

I know yorkies are known to be stubborn - but Bailey is not. She comes when called and gets praised and treated every time. Because of that, she lives a leash-free life - except when we're at the park. She is ALWAYS watched when we're outside. If we can't watch her then she stays inside.

All that said - I do worry about the one time she might chase something into the street - I worry alot. But the freedom of leash-free is wonderful.
