Keelyn just learned to laydown! I taught her sit a few weeks ago and now she knows lay down! I am uber excited!
she is only 10 weeks

How cute. I enjoy it when people are so excited about their babies accomplishments. Yorkies are so smart. You are doing a wonderful job.

It's surprising how quickly they learn at such young ages, isn't it?

I know how you feel! Im so proud of my little girl too. She is almost 13 weeks old and we have accomplished Sit, Down, Paw, Speak, and Turn around (she spins around.)

Hi. I have been working with Katy (10 weeks old) to learn to sit but I can't get her to pay attention long enough. What are some good tricks to get her to sit? She won't eat "treats". She thinks they are toys. LOL

Tha's great. How did you do it? My Tyson will be 12 weeks old the 17th of July and when I try to teach him he thinks everything is playtime. He doesn't care much for treats. Any suggestions

hahah i use keelyn's food as "treats" i don't necessarily say treat, but I take it from her food bowl and do it.

Sit happened pretty fast, basically you make them want what's in your hand and eventually after jumping on me to get it she eventually sat down and I gave it to her and the good girls started rolling

. Down took a little longer. I mean I am no master by any means I kind of just do what works haha. She has now mastered roll over and "high five"

For paw I just take her paw without her doing anything and saying "paw" and say good girl! over and over and eventually she caught on and started tapping my hand on her own!

When I first started teaching her, she wouldnt pay attention to treats either. I resorted to bits of boiled chicken, which got her attention. Then a week later I switched to treats when she got a hang of it.

I "made" Scooter do the right thing - but on his own - and he caught on really quick.
For sit, I held the treat right at his nose, then slowly lifted it up and back, his nose followed and (after a couple tries) his bum eventually hit the ground instead of him just backing up - after that sit was easy.
Same with down - I'd make his sit, then i'd pull the treat out from his nose and down - his nose followed and eventually his body did the right thing and he got the treat!
After he did it on his own, he caught on really fast!
I also did it to get him to stand up on his back legs - just lift the treat straight up from his nose and once he does it on his own he gets it!

Have you tried several different treats?
I couldn't get Scooter to stay no matter what I tried. He thought STAY meant - jump up and get the treat as soon as possible! haha
Then I tried with our special 'potty training' treats (he loves those the best, so I HAD kept them only for potty training) But once I tried with that treat he listened right away - so he just needed the right motivation!
I'd try a couple treats, or boiled chicken or something special until they catch on.

Haha I have a large assortment!
His breeder said he liked chicken jerky, so I have some of that, though it's not his favourite.
We have some Cesar treats for small dogs with hard outsides and soft insides - he LOVES these.
We have some other soft training treats from the local pet store - I forget what they're called though.
We have some Wellness treats.
Anyway my box of treats is REALLY big! And it's going to last forever because I cut all these treats up into tiny little bites!

And the EXTRA special treat is grated cheese. If he could eat one food for the rest of his life - he'd choose cheese.

I just tried a lot and found out what ones he responds to better - that shows which ones he likes more!
