I never allow my puppies to run free with the rest of the pack...Usually introduce them to the females after 8 weeks of age and just for short intervals and under careful supervision. You don't want them frightened or have anything done that might interfer with socialization and personalities. Fear factor ages are 8, 12, 16 weeks...you do nothing unusual that can have an adverse affect on them during these periods

you never give a newborn a bath. in fact, my babies don't get the first one till about seven or eight weeks and only then if they need it. you have to make sure they are a hundred percent dry. i like to wait a couple of weeks longer. As to seeing the rest of the furfamily, mine stay with mama in the x-peen until I decide they have grown enough to be in the room with the others and after they have at least the first puppy shot. At about five weeks, i start letting mama out with the others a few hours a day extending it each day so that by the time they are six or seven weeks old, she is only with them at night, other than nursing times. when i do let the puppies out with the others, I only put them in for a few minutes under my watchful eye and gradually, as they get used to it, I lengthen the time. Depending on the size of the puppies (i have some that are smaller), I let them move permanently to the "big room" at about eight or nine weeks. others might do it different but this is how i do it. Oh, the x-pen is in my bedroom and sometimes when I let the other dogs out of their room, on their outside, they take a turn and go look at the babies thru the holes in the x-pen. | |

| Alot of socialization is done by you. Slowly taking it to other parts of the house, letting it get use to different noises and interacting with the household. Mom does alot of it by training how to play, piddle pad training, that is if your mom knows about it too. I never let my pups run with adult males, until they are about 8 months of age, then I introduce them slowly.
