breeders your thoughts PLEASE Again I need your help. Suki is due around the 12th of August. I know that I need to find her a quite, warm place for her babies, She has started to spend alot of time in my clothes closet. Is this a good place. she seems to like it there. Also Could you suggest what to have on hand for the pregnancy. I have read alot of books, But you guys have been thru it and have personal suggestions that I think us new breeders would greatly appreciate and you seem to know more than the books! she got extremely picky on eating and mardeline suggested Gerber chicken Sticks. ( SHE IS A GOD SENT) it worked she is eating again. Maybe some suggestions on what you guys feed would help us new breeders... I know I will be keeping my laptop handy when that day comes......... What about to stop her diarrhea

whelping Get a bed..I use those plastic Rubbermade bins..I put a heating and under the bin, not in it. A small amount of bedding, like a folded towels works fine. Mine eat lots of chicken, rice, mixed with dry and cottage cheese...see the vet after whelping..good luck

Thank you so much for your advice, Do you think it would be o.k. to keep her in the closet, She cant seem to stay out of it. About the heating pad should it be a moist heating pad?

I think if you put her whelping box in the closet it will be fine BUT, when the babies start climbing over the side you are going to have a problem. I put an X-pen right at the foot of my bed a few days before whelp time . I put my whelping box ( an underbed plastic storage from Walmart0 in one end. I also use pish pads in the whelping box so the puppies don't get lost in towels or blankets. I don't put the mommies in until about a week before due date. They usually sleep in the x-pen not the box. their choice. About three days before the due date, I throw an old towel in the box kind of semi folded so I can tell when mama starts to "dig her nest'. As it gets closer to time, she starts jumping in and out of the box for a few minutes at a time then when she is ready, she gets in the box like she just knows what to do and stays there until babies are born. About the heating pad, I have never used moist heat. i don't think anyone else does either. Also, i only put it under half the box so mama has a place to "get away" if she gets too hot. problem is, babies gravitate towards mam so i usually end up using the heat lamp about the second day. i don't leave it on all the time either. my house is good and warm and i check puppies frequently. Like every half hour or so. if they feel the least bit cool, on goes the lamp. hope this helps.

I have vanilla ice cream on hand for mom during long whelpings (has sugar for energy and calcium for contractions) I use "mother's pudding" after whelping if they are being picky, and to help supplement calcium. I had a couple puppies that were very gassy with this and had to stop it, which resolved the problem. It was driving mom mad. I love the rubbermaid bin that has wheels that goes up under the bed, very roomy. I had saved blankets from my last child, they sure are coming in handy now.

| another piece of advise. if she can get under any beds or sofas, block them off. they like to go to a very dark small area to deliver the babies.

WOW thank you guys. You dont know how much I appreciate the help. We have took up the carpet in the closet and have laid down some newspaper in the corner for mommy to use. We put her welping box in the closet and she seems to know what it is for. I dont let her in it yet, but i will before the babies are born. There is a screen gate blocking the rest of the closet so that if the babies start roaming they cant get into anything. (it is a walk in closet, very big) I really like the idea about the heat lamp instead ! I agree with the babies following mom to the other side of the box. Does anyone have any ideas about her diarehia, She has had it for about 1 week now. Or is that normal ? Also I took her temp last night because she was acting out of the ordinary. It was 100.4 and then I took it this morning it was 100.3. is that normal she is at approx. 50 days. I think. I know when I went on a family emergency she was suppose to be separated from the male till I got back (no such luck) but when I got back they were still tie-ing . I read that she could have been pregnant the first time they tied and will still tie until the cycle is done. Is this true? If so then she is a little further along then I think. She is scheduled to have a xray next tuesday to find out about the babies. I know they are kicking up a storm right now.

| If they are kicking up a storm now they are probably due before you think. Count 63 days from the first breeding and go from there. Yes, they will continue to breed until she is no longer receptive.

Thank you, I guess she might be due sooner than I think. I took her temp the last 2 days but it is staying at 100.4 to 100.3 morning and night. Her appetite is less and less everyday. She walks around whinning sometimes, But I think it just might be the babies moving around. What do you think, Do you think maybe she is getting close ? Maybe I should stay home the rest of the week and next week with her. I counted from the first time I saw them tie and today would be her 53 or 54 day ! Keep in mind I had to go away on a family emergency and they were suppose to be kept apart till I got back ( it never happened) I know that she was spotting the last 3 days of May so she was done spotting the day I left. From now on Baby goes with me no matter what ! I am so confused and worried about her ! This is our first litter ! So I am a beginner and so is she. I can bring her to work without a problem or I can stay home dont matter I own the business. WHat should her temp be ? Is 100.3 low or normal ? I know when it drops below 98. look out !

Thank you I will call the vet now. I dont know if it is because she changes what she wants to eat almost daily. She eats chicken then dont want it and will eat Beef and then dont want that, It is very hard to match what she is craving. I feed her the chicken sticks that Mardeline suggested and she likes them alot. do you think it might be because of her changes in her food ? I have went thru so many different things trying to get her taste right. She is a picky eater since she is pregnant. But i will callt he vet today and maybe bring her in just to be safe

just talked to the vet. I changed her appt. from Tuesday next week to TODAY at 3:30pm. So I will let you know what happens. They said it might be the changing in the food, but I told them I wanted her looked at. So we are on our way....

Hi guys, Just for an update. Suki is doing great ! Took her to the vet, He said she is very healthy and he thinks that because Suki is so very picky and changes what she wants to eat all the time. The loose stools and diarehia is due to her changing her diet. I tol dhim everything she eats allt he time and he said she is fine, He also did the x-ray and he said most Yorkies only have 1 or 2 the first litter, But when he did the x-ray we found out she is having 4 BABIES !!! It was so beautiful to see all the puppies bones, Amazing you could see them so clear. He said he thinks that she is about 55 days. So she should be having them very soon! I greatly appreciate my family here at YT and value all your help and suggestions. I will keep you informed on her progress. again thanks guys for the help.
