| Breeders how do I trick my pregnant female I need your help again guys, your the only ones I can get the right information from. The vet has given me pet cal. ( calcium tablets) for Suki while she is pregnant. She is 36 days right now and he said to give her these pills for the calcium for her and the babies. I have crushed the pill and have tried to put it in chicken broth with fresh chicken, also beef, tried to hide it in her moist puppy food, with ice cream, in the juice from her london broil , I cant think of anything that I can do to get her to take this pill. It is very large and has to be crushed... cant anyone give me direction. she is so smart. I have even tried putting it in her food in the other room and she still knows.....I have tried vitamin D milk ( just a little ) etc.... HELP !! MY DOG SEEMS SMARTER THAN ME.......... |

| Nutrical would probably do the trick. Is she pre-eclamptic? I'm just wondering, supplementing calcium can backfire when her body calls for it. Specifically whelping and several weeks following, feeding the puppies. |

BANNED! | Please be careful with giving calcium that early in pregnancy. It can actually stop your bitch from making her own calcium naturally, then she can be very pre-disposed to eclampsia issues. This Vet seems abit over the top IMO. I would perhaps get a second opinion or atleast only give her calcium every few days (like 4 or 5) instead of every day as your vet suggests. |

| Thank you so much guys, I am so glad that I have you guys to ask for help. I was kind of thinking the same about giving her calcium. She is not pre-eclamptic so I dont know why the calcium? She dont seem to be having any kind of change as far as lack of anything. What about giving her a little bit of milk vitamin D once and a while ? I have read so much about giving her calcium too early if at all. You guys just confirmed it! Maybe I will give her some calcium the last week of her pregnancy. She is getting to the point where now she dont like her chicken, So the suggestion about the liver is great ! I never tried liver with her. What other kinds of things do you guys give your baby when she is pregnant to make sure that she is getting all the nutrition she needs, Anyone have any suggestions. Keep in mind she will have nothing to do with any puppy or dog food right now, She thinks she needs more than that I guess. Can you give me some ideas on what to feed her. She dont like peanut butter, She use to, but not since she got pregnant. any help would be appreciated. Last edited by Paw2PawTalk; 07-20-2007 at 05:35 AM. |

| o.k. Difinetely no milk, Got it ! Cottage cheese I will try it. I guess the best thing to do is let her product her own calcium. If I give her cottage cheese and anything else I can find that she will eat with calcium in it. I would think she would do good. Thank you so much ! |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | If I'm not mistaken, Pet-Cal is a calcium supplement and is a low dose. It has lots of other vitamins in it, too. Kinda like pre-natal vitamins for humans.
