| possibly pregnant? Hi, I have a 11 month old female that had her first heat the end of April. I also own a 7 month old male. I truly don't know when they would have hooked up as I was extremely careful with keeping him in a belly band all the time or separating them, but she is just not herself. She was in standing heat the entire first week of May and after that she wouldn't let him try anything, however I kept him in a band for almost 2 more weeks just to be sure. My goal is to breed them eventually, although I am studding him out after he sires his first litter with a friends yorkie which won't be for a few more months. I guess this is a very long winded way of asking some basic questions, sorry. How common are false pregnancy's and do they need to do anything for them? and second, we are going on a boating trip next week which is still to early for an x-ray , do I need to worry about taking her with? It is hot, but we are in the water too. I guess I just want to know for sure whether she is or isn't pregnant and when I asked the vet, they weren't much help. Her vulva is still somewhat enlarged, although it has gone down and her teats now stick out where they were flat before. She has thrown up twice some yellow (bright) foam and she is very cuddly although she is pretty cuddly anyway. She just seems heavier to me too, but if this was her first heat isn't that somewhat like puberty so a small weight gain and nipple enlargement wouldn't be all that unusual right? I am lurking on this sight daily so I kindof feel like I already know some of you(weird I know) and I am really hoping for some responses from some of the experienced breeders on here. There is no one in my area who breeds, other than some one or two time hobby breeders and I really rely on this site for all the incredible info you offer. I want to do this responsibly, so I will probably be asking a ton more questions, especially when it come time to stud out my male. I am researching his background for genetic info and having him evaluated by a vet but I wish I had someone who knew yorkies who could give me an honest evaluation. Well, sorry for such a long and convoluted post any and all advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Melanie |

| the hormonal change that occurs with first heat sometime acts like a pregnancy when its not. your little girl throwing up, is suspicous, usually about 2-3 weeks into a pregnancy comes morning sickness, throwing up a yellow flim. I would think your male is too young to be a sexually mature, maturity is normal reached 8-12 months but sometimes a bit earlier and could be up to about 14 months.

| We have a 11mth that was just in heat first time, was not bred POSSITIVE Our other female had 1 pup he is about 6 wks and this female that is 11 mth is trying to take over the care of this pup, she has been out of heat for about a month and has been puking in hte am past 3 days (yellow too), very sleepy and a little crabby, she is going through a false pregnancy, our vet thinks this pup brought on maternal insincts and there for is excperiancing a false pregnancy. I do know of a couple that raises pekinese and their male was 7 mo when it bred their female and they had 2 pups,so it can happen that the little guy got the job done, but false pregnancies are not that uncommon. By 27-32 days you ought to be able to palpate her to see, I have found this very reliable , if you are good at it and your female is copperative you may be able to count how many their are Last edited by 011011; 05-31-2005 at 10:17 AM. |

| I have a yorkie who I mated in April, According to my calculations, she should be due between the 1st - 4th of July. SHe has gone through everything that you said about your female. The throwing up, lazyness. Teets larger, and seems to feel heavier. But even though I so want her to be pregnant I don't think she is.. She went though false pregnancy last heat and basically the same symptoms.. Xrays can be done by the 45th day , other than that you can get a sonogram or a blood test. All are fairly expensive. I did the xray last time and I will not do it again unless I'm sure. good luck and if you want to talk just email me.

| Thanks everyone for your replies, I really appreciate all the advice. I was going to take her in, but I think I will just wait it out. She has not thrown up again so I am just going to watch her. I guess I will know eventually right? If it is a false pregnancy, does the vet do anything or does it go away on its own? |
