| Questions about breeding Hi, This is my first time on yorkie talk. My main reason for signing up is because I would like to breed my yorkie, Samoa, just this once. My sister is in love with Samoa and would love to have one of her puppies, So I said that I would breed her this once. However, I've never done this before. Any suggestions? Samoa is currently in heat, is 2 years old, and is (according to the vet) the perfect age to breed. Also, I live in the Washington DC area, does anyone have a little boy who might be interested in being the daddy? I am not doing this for money or anything like that. I've already consulted a vet regarding the health issues and advice. Does anyone have any advice to share with me? Thanks! |

| My advice would be to make sure you think your decision through thoroughly. Be sure that before you decide to proceed, you are confident that you can handle any situation that can arise--emotionally, financially (it gets very costly) and that you are willing and able to dedicate the extensive time required to care for a prego female and whelping and raising of a litter. If your only reason for breeding is so that your sister can have a dog like yours, I would suggest maybe helping her to find one from a breeder (the same breeder...they could be sisters?) instead. Good luck with whatever you decide. |

| If you truly love your Yorkie, you will not breed her. It's very dangerous and generally they need a C section. If you or your sister want another Yorkie, I suggest going thru the AKC and look for a breeder in your area, or look for one in a Rescue. |

| Breeding is not an easy thing to do. There are many such as yourself that have decided to breed their yorkie because so and so wants one....Please do the research. These lil creatures lives are in our hands, and it is a risk if you don't do the research up front; weigh the pros and cons. The biggest one being are you willing to loose your female, because it can and does happen. Are you willing to suffer the consequences of loosing puppies or them being malformed because of an improper breeding.
