| Question for Breeders I need your advice I recently bought a female Yorkie from a breeder in Florida. She is adopting a baby and finding homes for her young females. Holly is the Yorkie that I got. She is imported from Brazil from somewhere called Lake Buena Vista Kennels. Anyways...I paid quite a bit for Holly in my opinion...$1500 plus shipping. I was willing to do so because she was already 6 months old which meant she was up to date on all of her shots which is several hundred dollars, registered which can cost $50-$100, and she was potty trained. I was told $1500 was a good deal from a dog from this Kennel. She does also have full registration if I ever want to breed her. So I go to make an appointment at my vet and they call the vet the health certificate is from. They have no shot record on her. The breeder told me she was up to date and the info was on the certificate. ALSO...I get her papers in the mail and they are BRAZILIAN. And I so cannot read Portuguese. I have to pay $60 MORE to transfer them into my name and THEN mail them into AKC with a Foreign Registration Application which is $50 MORE! And now if she does not call me back and furnish vet records I will have to get her her whole vaccine series even if she did already have them. The breeder states she did not send the Brazilian papers in to AKC yet because she is not old enough to breed and that she was about to when she found out the adoption is going through. But yet she advertised to me that she had "AKC Full Registration and up to date on shots." Granted she can be AKC registered but still now I have to deal with all of this mess. My question is...do you guys think I have a right to be upset? I really want to call her and ask her for a refund of several hundred dollars for the things I was mislead about that were included in her price. I do not want to call and make a fool of myself so please let me know your opinions if this is me overreacting or if it is justified that I am upset!! Thanks in advance! |

BANNED! | You have every right to be upset. You were not given correct information. I can tell you that you got a great deal on your yorkie. Lake Buena Vista Kennel has some awsome puppies and alot of great Champion dogs!! Good luck with all the registration transfering I know it can be abit difficult. |

| pup Yes, you have every right to be upset. It is the breeders/sellers responsibility to be ethical and honest in all points. Posters often say the buyer is the one who needs to do their "homework"..this is true to a point..but a buyer does not always know the "ins and outs" of papers, records etc.. You should have been told these things before the sale...and in the state of Florida all dogs must have seen a vet before the sale and a record of shots to be given the buyer.. As to the vet...if the breeder gave the shots, you might as well bite the bullet and get the shots redone..not good health-wise, but you are between a rock and hard place..many vets totally disregard breeder shots... If this was my Yorkie, I would get a DHPP...wait 4 weeks and get a second..none after that..and if she will not provide proof of rabies, I would wait 12 months...no way I would double up on a rabies shot...Good Luck |

| A deal You got a wonderful deal on this puppy, and with full registration too! That is saying a lot......it sounds like, she knows that you won't be able to breed her this early, so the issue was not "immediate" based on that. I dont think she is intentionally causing you grief. Of course I tend to be very understanding...maybe tooooooooo much...LOL Personally, I think you really need a good relationship with this breeder, so sending a letter requesting several hundred dollars back may do more harm than good. It is a hassle, I agree, but sounds like you got a wonderful puppy from a well known kennel, for a very good price. I would just chaulk it up as an "expense" and try to resolve it yourself. Or maybe a nice letter explaining your issues, and asking for help from her. Good luck, sounds like you have been very fortunate to get this little puppy. Regarding the shots.......YorkieRose is right on! YMHO Last edited by Saleswman; 03-28-2007 at 07:40 AM. |

| I almost bet they had rabies already. They have to show proof that the puppies have their rabies shot before they will let them ship international or at least that was the case for me. |

| Lake Buena Vista is well known as a puppy mill in Brazil.....yes, they do have Champion dogs. When they first started out they were very good, then got greedy and the almighty $$$ got in their way and will sell to anyone with the right amount of green in their hands. Deal with this lady in a polite manner....anything that you can come to terms with is a plus.....

| Was your girl purchased from a person by the name of Tatiana? I believe she lives in Florida and sells the LBV dogs here in the US.. I believe she is also the one who advertises the LBV dogs on a site called Puppyfind..

| The thing that sets them apart from being a "puppymill" in my opinion is even if they do sell alot of dogs and a few different breeds, they do show their dogs and make champions out of most of them. Most of their puppies come from champion sires and dams and the pedigrees are full of champions and international champions as well. I dont know of too many "puppymills" that do that. If they were just in it for the money I dont think they would take the time and the expense to make champions out of their dogs and buy such good quality dogs to use as breeding stock. I don't have first hand knowledge of the shape many of the puppies arrive in so I dont know about that part. |
