| Split heat question Have you ever heard of a breeding pair tying and then the female come into heat again a month later? I have been waiting for this female to show signs of pregnancy and now she is swollen again and bleeding. I have to assume that she didn't ovulate with the first "heat". Sylvia |

| Split Heat No Tie Sylvia, I have a female Boxer that has split heats. But she doesn't allow the male to breed on the firt heat. She has a discharge that lasts about 10 days but she doesn't swell much. And then about a month later she starts having the discharge again and swells. We breed her on days 9 & 11 and sometimes 13 of the second part of the cycle (if that makes sense). Since I know her and how her cycles work this works out for us. I know she's not a Yorkie but I hope this helps anyway. Carrie

| I think I was wondering if there was any chance, at a later date, that if it was going to be a split heat, if she could get pregnant during the first half. I don't know what causes a split heat but I think I was changing foods when Lacijo ended up having hers and I know I was changing foods when Tinker had hers. I am not going to experiment to find out but if it doesn't happen again, I think I'm right, at least in the case of my dogs. Sylvia |

| This is very interesting. I had asked my vet about it and he said there was no such thing, but I have heard it from too many others so I think otherwise.

| Hmmmm, maybe you ought to ask him what he calls it when a female comes in heat, goes out of heat and then comes in heat again about 6 weeks later. I can tell you that I KNOW she was in heat the first time. She swelled and did tie. They don't tie if they aren't in heat or on their way out of heat. Sylvia |
