| Get some "doggie" kind of nail polish. I had 2 litters born one day apart. Four out of one and three out of the other one. The older female wanted ALL of them. So I put red polish on hers and yellow on the other ones. Works great. DON"T use people polish tho. It's toxic. Suz

| I put a drop of food coloring on a cotton swab and paint different color spot on each pup. That's why I have BluePuppy and GreenPuppy |

| I put yarn around mines necks when they were born and it took mom about two hours to tear it off and nearly kill puppies trying to do it. Won't do that again. |

Lovin' 2 Girls Donating Member | Not a breeder, here; but thought I'd add the doggie nail polish seems a good, safe way. When I picked out my Abigail the breeder marked the inside tip of her ear with nail polish

Is the laundry marker safe? and does it come in different colors? I used the ribbon around the neck last time and Emilee had it off of them in 20 minutes. Too scary for me to put something around the neck again. Wonder if it would work right behind the front legs??? I read in another thread here somewhere that the doggie polish had the same ingredients as human polish, but more expensive...is that true? I need to figure out something too, Emilee should be due around March 1 and then Gidget should be going into heat the end of this month.

As my babies are born I pick them up, when mom is ok with it, and start making notes on a pad about them. I weigh them and note any markings. If there is more than one with a blaze I note if it's a bigger or smaller blaze than the one born before it. I note if there are any white toes. This last litter had two little males, one had a small white patch of hair on the right side of where his testes will be and the next one had a little white patch of hair on both sides. Sylvia | |
