Grace is having babies!!!!!! QUESTION She had her first at 7:23 this morning, the second at 7:38. Both are still attached to her, since she hasn't delivered either sack. Since it's been about 45 minutes now, should I go ahead & cut the cords? She is diligently licking, cleaning, & such, but has not chewed the cord yet. HELP! Not completely sure how many more there are left. Maybe 1-2.

birthing Take a dry washcloth, get a firm grip and gently try pulling them out BY the cord...if this does not work or it breaks it is not the end of the world..clamp and cut..a shot will expell the placenta's or they will come out with a massage or naturally..BUT you will be counting plancenta's so you will know if one is retained..just so she sees the vet witnin 24 hrs there is rarely a problem. REmember..do nto pull by the pup..pull by holding on to the cord, inch it out

Ok, while I was in here typing earlier, she has delivered one placenta & is diligently chewing that pup's chord. the other pup is still attached. I will do as you recommended. I just didn't want to jump in & handle things too early, since it is best that mama do as much as possible.

Ok, second placenta delivered, eaten, and mama is chewing the chord. She's such a good mama. Amazing how they know exactly what to do. Go figure. All that work makes my deliveries seem so easy! First pup weighs in at a whoppin' 7 oz! That seems really large! The second pup looks smaller. Will give a full report later. I know there are more to come.

Pup # 2 weighs just under 7 oz. Weird how it looks quite a bit smaller than the first. They are both nursing now. Mom's exhausted, but she has started having more contractions, so I'm watching for pup #3 now. Oops! Forgot about taking pics!! Better go find the camera. I remembered eveything BUT that!!
