Question to other breeders?

I purchased a yorkie from a breeder 3 years ago for $1000 dollars. She told me if I ever wanted to breed my female I would have to go back to her, so my yorkie had limited registration. In March my baby went into heat and I drove to the breeders house to get her bread. She lives an hour and a half away. I had her bread three times and my choices were to give her pick of the litter or $1400 dollars for a stud fee. I knew that my babies registration had to be changed to register the new pups, so on the last breeding time I had all of the paperwork for the AKC filled out with a check in an envelope ready to be mailed. All she had to do was sign it and put it in the mailbox. I have not received any paperwork from AKC and my check has not cleared. I guess she is using that as security for her pup, but I think that the paperwork for AKC takes about a month. I have been in touch with her since the puppies were born. My baby had nine pups. I am keeping one and my little sister is getting one also. The breeder gets pick of the litter, so I want to sell the remaining 6 pups. My question is when can she pick her pup so my sister and I can pick ours? Also, surely she couldn't expect me to load all nine pups and moma and drive an hour and a half away. And what about the papers? What do I do, please help?

The fee for removing the limitations is $25.00. You should be able to call AKC 919-233-9767 to see if they have received the request. Have your dog's papers available so you can give them the dam's AKC registration number to check on. You also need to discuss with her if she is going to limit registration on the puppy's so you can let prospective owners know what type of registration they will have (full or limited).

She might expect you to drag them all down there, but she also might be willing to choose by pictures and weight. The time frame she has to choose in should have been agreed to before the mating. Since nothing was said she will probably want to wait as late as possible. Hopefully, she is easy to work with. Tell her that you and your sister want to keep a puppy and don't want to become attached to the one she wants and see if you can get her to make a decision as soon as possible.

What some breeders won't do for a dollar...$1400 for stud service, would buy the best champion in the country...I am glad you are giving her a pup instead..especially since you got NINE!!! LOL

Call the breeder and talk to her about where you stand. Is she waiting for her pup?..I can see her point in doing this..some people will refuse to give the pup back. Ask her at what age you are to give up the pup..how and where...get the facts now...she can not get her litter pick registered until she gives you the papers as the breeder of the litter to sign over to her..write it out and make her sign a agreement.

Your yorkiie had 9 puppies??? That has to be some sort of record.

I wouldn't give her the puppy until I had the paperwork. but she has to send it in if she wants her pick to be regisered.

Okay..let me understand you...

You are the breeder of this litter, because you are the owner of the bitch...when stud owner has AKC remove limited regs, you will get a litter application with her studs info on it...YOU fill out your bitches info and send it to AKC..AKC sends the AKC litter regs back to YOU...you do not need the owner of the stud to sign anything on your puppies...but if she does not do remove limited regs, she will not get papers on her pick of the litter either...call her.

You can download a litter appilcation and take it to her...have her fill it out with you there...

I just talked to my mom who knows more than I do. She said it used to be that you only waived the limitations for one litter by joining with the current owner and could insist all puppies were sold with a limited registration, but now they actually issue a new application so your dog would have a full registration from this point on and she could not have any say in it. Sorry for the earlier outdated advice.

Have you talked to the breeder? Tell her you would be willing to sign an agreement guaranteeing her a puppy (with a timeline for choosing), but you really want to have the puppy applications in hand to send home with the new owners.
