| Go to www.homestead.com/glassyorkies and click on the breeding article. You may change your mind quickly about using your baby as a stud. The article is about everything that can happen to the bitch and the stud if used for breeding. Last edited by eensor; 04-05-2005 at 08:53 AM. |

| You now what really amuses me about this whole post. I asked a simple question I even stated I was THINKING about using him as a stud service, I never said I was GOING to use him. Also the reason I was thinking about it was because I wanted a female for trade. I asked the price simply because I was going to check for a breeder that was asking whatever amount someone on here thought might be fair so I would know if it would be a fair trade. I never asked for all of you to harp on me and basically tell me I'm a horrible person or something. Or to judge me about me supposedly seeing my dog as dollar signs, so many of you are so quick to judge. When you know nothing about me. I only asked simple questions, and wanted to gain a little knowledge and instaed I was accused and wrongly judged and by WHO all of YOU who are all of you anyway!!! |

| Tink-n-Kody I really think that you did begin to take things the wong way from the start. I do not believe any of this was meant as a personal attack on you, although from your post is does look like you think that. With that said breeding is not something for everyone, to become a reputable breeder you have to put much more time and energy in to your bitch or stud than you wuld a pet. As explained by others the cost is very high, most breeeders walk away with an even keel, or even lose money. I also know that the people that are into for money are in it for the wrong reasons and ones I usually think of as a backyard breeder. I have not had the chance to breed my yorkie as of yet. But before I do there will be hundreds of dollars spent on test alone to make sure she is a good canidate. I am also one of the people looking to show my animals, agian something that puts off breeding for a number of years. I guess the bottom line is what kind of breeder do you want to be? A mentor is a good place to ask advice. But do be carful as to what you consider, chances are in the long run you will spend more on studing him out and the test, than you would to buy a nice quality bitch. Not trying to offend or step on toes, just a clam voice of reason

| I think I have to agree with Tink-n-Kody all she did was ask a few simple questions. All she wanted to know was information about using her puppy for a stud. My breeder recommended that I stud Sebastian out too due to the fact there aren't very many small Yorkies in our area and people are always looking. I have not yet made a decision. (he is only 12 weeks today) But if she didn't trust us to help her she wouldn't have asked, instead of coming down on her I think we should just inform her in a nice way of things to expect when using your dog as a stud. In our area the dog must be tested and be current on the shots. Some people have charged anywhere from $450.00- $850.00 here for a stud. Usually the female comes to the males house in our area. I have heard though that once you stud it is very hard to break the dog from marking his territory and I just don't know if that is something I can get used to. You will probably have to constantly have a belly band on him. Anyways I hope I didn't offend anyone and just wanted to give my two cents. |

| I agree with Sevastian's Mom... well said and written.. I think alot of people talk bad about back yard breeding but if you do your home work like tink-n-kody is trying to do with asking questions to gather information to make the best decision then your doing the responsible thing. tink-n-kody try to find the best bitch that complements you stud. Sounds like your stud is small and that is something most breeders want to use with bitches for perhaps? "but not alway" easier deliveries. Use the standards as a guide to find what would best complement your stud should you decide to go with the service. I have purchased all 4 of my yorkies from "back yard breeders" and they all meet the AKC standards. By what i have read here more people have been upset with professional breeders than the back yard. what ever you decide good luck. |

Donating YT 14K Club Member | You need to check with vets about the going rate. The first time I studded my male out I only got $200. My friend told me that was the going rate. Well, after I had made a stop somewhere and asked how much they charged for stud services, I was told $1000. I started calling vet offices and a couple of stud services and found out that the going rate for our area was $500. So, the next time my friend wanted to use my male, I charged her $500. She was SO LIVID! She used my male, paid my fee and a couple of weeks later, she went out and bought her own male. |

It was before I was a regular member here I think and I would have felt the same way if I was the thread starter. We need to be a little more considerate and kind when we respond and I think we are now....at least I hope we are. I felt sort of sorry for Wolftrap who started the "I AM Thinking of Breeding" thread today because her thread was overtaken by a debate about the standard and whether a slight underbite is a life altering fault under the standard. This thread had some of the same, what I consider to be, occasionally overly critical and way too serious, posters who like to resort to personal attacks when their opinion is challenged. As always, JMHO. | |

| She doesn't even sound like a real member. Just another troll trying to stir it up, and this time it wasn't any of us. She didn't like the information she was getting or just a troll that decided to see what would happen if...
